Hey all,

I don't post here that much but just wanted to mention this in case people hadn't heard.

The Atlanta Roundtable just published their final report on a $6 billion transportation improvement plan for the 12 county metro area. The report just won unanimous approval from the mayors. http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/atlanta-regions-6-14-1200104.html

Full project list: http://www.atlantaregionalroundtable.com/documents/final_report.pdf

This plan is designed to alleviate congestion and traffic problems and develop better traffic flow by improving existing roads and adding new ones, and by expanding rail to CDC/Emory, and the MARTA north line, and adding a light rail service into Cobb. It will also pay for resurfacing streets in poor condition, and improving intersections that have bottlenecks.

Next year citizens in the metro areas will vote on a 1 percent sales tax increase for the next 10 years to fund the project. If you want to see the traffic situation improve in Atlanta, please support this and convince your friends to support and vote for this. :)

I know no one likes more taxes, but this will be the largest infrastructure investment in the Atlanta area in decades, it will increase property values and bring more jobs to the area, and it will make travel less aggravating than it is today. If you look at the full list of projects, there are a lot of improvements in every county.

I absolutely can't stand people who are unwilling to pay an extra cent in sales tax for things like this. Sounds good to me.

clarification: just realized I meant to put 1 percent, not 1 cent.

so for a $10 purchase, it would be an extra 10 cents for example.

I really doubt most people would even notice (unless they are destitute).

I have no problem with most of the projects listed. I just hope no one expects these improvements to actually reduce traffic congestion, come in at or under budget, or not cause additional traffic congestion all over the metro area for the next decade.

We just saw what 60 mil in taxpayer money got us with the HOT lanes on I-85. Increased congestion in the other lanes because they are WAY overpriced. I mean, who really thought you would get a significant number of people that are willing to pay $.90 a mile for those lanes?

I agree that the HOT lanes on 85 do not help, however, the road widening proposed for many of the streets off the main highways in this plan will make a positive difference, both for entering and exiting the freeways (which are often choke points) and for traveling those streets independently.

I agree they will have a marginal effect when they are done, but over the next decade we can expect even more issues getting through these areas while the work is being done.

I swear to god if they don't use this money to fix West Paces Ferry rd, I'm moving. That's got to be about the shittiest road ever, and for all those rich folks that live down that road, it's a frigging embarrassment.

I agree completely. It is a statewide embarrassment if the gov brings any kind of VIP to the mansion down that road.

There is something they should add, though. Everyone who worked together on the peach pass should have pineapples shoved up their asses.

I say fuck this. They have jacked the peach pass up causing worse traffic on 85 and lawrenceville hwy in one swoop. It seems like in atlanta they take this money to "make things better" It actually gets worse. Not to mention look at the tolls on 400 they said they were going to get rid of them when it was paid off. They didnt get rid of it. Its a way of the state government to get more of our money with a excuse not to give it back after this is done.
