Plenty, just none that I'm moving on at the moment. Swapping a different carb tomorrow, and electronic ignition soon.

Also picking up some 15x10's tomorrow.

Which carb are you swapping in? If that's an L-18 or L-20, the SUs might work out nicely if you can find some. It looks like it's in great shape especially considering how old it is.

It's an L20B. I put on a 32/36 Weber on for now.

I actually want to go the ITB route with some Keihn CVK 40's. Just haven't worked out an intake manifold just yet, but I will!

Close. lol Actually, the real story was that since I got the truck, I was driving around on a bum u-joint with a flat spot in the bearing (replaced it when i did the clutch) and it appears that all the crazy driveline vibrations knocked out some tranny mount bolts and well... the rest is pretty obvious.

There was no REAL damage, just some battle scars.

metalmatt47

Yayyyyy trucks running great now.

Next step is going to be electronic ignition. Haven't decided what IGN control to use, but an MSD 6AL is screaming my name. Crank trigger with a dizzy delete would be cool too.

Also gonna pick up some 40MM CVK ITB's from a bike and hack up an old manifold to piece something together.

Last but not least my current project:

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i471/Yatesphoto47/IMAG0971.jpg

I'm stuffing this under the bed just behind the axle between the frame rails. I'm mounting it with 1'' angled steel bolted through the frame-rails at the rear, and i'm gonna weld up a cage around it for protection. Should give me some nice results.

Is this torsion bar suspension? If so, what do you do to lower it? My brother has a 720 that we want to ca18 swap eventually, but we haven't really figured how to lower it yet, lol.

Is this torsion bar suspension? If so, what do you do to lower it? My brother has a 720 that we want to ca18 swap eventually, but we haven't really figured how to lower it yet, lol.

Yup! Torsion bars are awesome.

All he needs to do to lower his 720 is:

1: Jack the front two tires off the ground to unload the front suspension. (don't forget the stands)

2: You'll need a 15mm crescent wrench for the nut on top of the bars, and a 17mm 1/2'' drive on the head of the bold. Loosen the bolt to lower the suspension. Hold the nut on the back side, or it'll just spin.

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/PEZi303/IMG_0395-1.jpg

3: Make sure when you adjust them, you do both sides in equal intervals. It's gonna be tough to match them both perfect, so it will take a few tries to match both sides. Make some measurements and do your best to match them.

4: When you drop the truck, the torsion bars settle back down pretty quickly, but going over a bump (like the gutter) a few times settles it down better. Measure and adjust.

5: Re-index the control arm bushings when you lower it. The bushings were torqued at the original height, so you'll wear them FAST if you don't re-index. It takes just a minuet to do it. All you do is break the control arm bolts loose, and re-torque them to allow the bushings to settle back in at the new height.

6: You'll need the front end aligned after you adjust them. It changes the whole front end. Camber, toe, etc.

7: The front suspension is going to feel much softer after it's dropped. Since he's using a CA18, his intent is pretty obvious. Make sure he's got a good set of shocks on the truck. Poly bushings and mounts on the sway bar help a lot also, but the T/R cannot use poly bushings!!! It will put an un-godly amount of stress on the T/R and it will likely break.

It's easy! PM me if you have any more questions. Also, get him on Ratsun.net, and he'll find an unlimited amount of knowledge on these old datto's. Some serious gear heads on there.

Only if I can find them at a good price. I have some goodies coming soon.

Started with suspension work again! Front shocks went on today, rear shocks tomorrow. The fronts were absolutely blown out.

I also scrubbed the fender wells clean and sprayed them with some cheap undercoating.

ahhhhhhh mother fucker.

Lost my rear brakes due to a trashed rear wheel cylinder. It uses a two piece that bolts a second part on the back of the wheel cyl that holds the bleed screw and brake line. WELLLLL, my fucking bleed screw was broken off on BOTH sides. I didn't know until I had pulled the thing apart. Waiting on parts to come in tomorrow to put the brakes back together. Until then, this is how she sits.

Rear U-joint fell to pieces and all the bearings fell out of the cup. Then promptly exploded when I eased off the clutch into 2nd.

Thanks Josh, all about personal taste to be honest. I just find it different, and different is cool.

I think the most enjoyable thing about it is the old school nature of it. It just looks so old, and fits the truck so good. It will come off eventually in the summer or sometime through winter (it's heavy and kills my gas milage and cheap clutch.)

Need flares for sure. Just thinking... early Z car (S30) flares, with a little more low = epic. Torsion bars won't take me much lower, and I can only go aboit 1/2 lower on these shocks before I'm on the stops. (They're about an inch shorter then stock)

Gonna probably end up raising the shock mounts and making some coilovers or looking for some short coilover options.

OR instead of flares, pull the fenders? Like my buddies...

I've taken off the camper... for now....... I also rolled the fenders with a bat to get a little less tire rub, and moar lower of course... but first:

So I went to an antique shop just walking around (been in and out of there a lot. They're huge) and walked past these...

They're old twin trumpet horns, aging somewhere between 1920-50. Everything I've seen suggests around the 30's, but there's a possibility its later then that. The low tone works great. The high tone trumpet has an internal short and works, but very intermittent. I don't want to burn it up so I'm thinking of dissecting it to see how it looks inside. The wire jacketing has fallen apart on both trumpets so I peeled it all off and covered the wireing in nice heat shrink tubing.*

After cleaning them up with a wire brush, they came out VERY nice.

I need to find a diagram for the 6V GM relay that it came with. I don't want to blow it up if it's any good. If I can get them both working 100%, I'll wire them in a series and run them on the truck. If not, I'll donate them to a rat rod project that's starting up.*

I also have finished repainting one of my two fender badges.

Not much new to report....

Except I've spent about $2000 in parts in the last few weeks on a datto stroker and some parts ;)

New motor/trans rebuild coming soon! Before IA if I'm lucky.

About a week or so ago, I was having oil PSI issues. (Oil light came on at idle) I was about ready to condemn the bearings and pull the motor after replacing the oil pump with a high volume pump which had no effect. After changing the oil and PSI sender (again) it's all fine. Dodged a bullet there. Best part about this oil pump is that it's external, and easy to remove. Driven by the distributor shaft, so I pulled the dizzy and used a set of vice grips to hold the shaft in place. 10 min later and I have a brand new oil pump in. I'm using a KA-E oil pump, since it's a higher volume pump.L

GF changing the oil PSI switch.

We only pulled the rear, since my fronts cleared with my current camber after doing some adjustments with a baseball bat a week before.L
L
There is NO more lower the front can go though.

We took a TON of pictures out at a closed parking lot. Enjoy. This shows about how stretched my fenders have gotten now.L
