Ever notice that 90% of anything listed on IA is at or OVER retail price?

just an observation from frequently browsing the classifieds. Seems almost everything listed here is AT LEAST retail price.

I always browse the guns section because i like to collect guns. I'll see guns listed used for MORE than you can buy the gun brand new at your local walmart. Call your local walmart right now as youre reading this, ask them how much the Mossberg maverick 88 shotgun is.... they'll quote you a price between $175-200 ( the price varies from store to store ) however the last 3 mavericks ive seen listed on IA were $275-400. Take a look for yourself.

There's currently a 92 civic with no engine listed for $3500 when the retail value of a 92 civic running and in "excellent" condition lists for $2200.

it seems IA's classifieds are a bunch of people listing things they really dont want to sell unless someone is stupid enough to pay an obnoxious price.

How do the mods react to this? depends on who you are, if you're one of their pals or if they actually like the car themselves, theyll safeguard the post, prevent anyone from commenting on the price.

if you're not one of their pals, theyll probably delete your post.

anyways, just an observation, if i get bored i may actually take the time to look at every single listing in the classifieds and make a chart vs the retail price. At a glance, i see way more items over retail than under.

depends on what you're looking at. If its a car they are always overpriced.
Most car parts on here are usually a pretty good deal but there is always people that overprice their shit.
I just love how someone posts an outrages price and puts obo but they are not very negotiable.

I'll chime in on this, sir. We've always had a rule against people posting about pricing. That doesn't mean that an interested party can't negotiate. Not that at all. It goes for the people that jump in a thread and (in a nutshell) trash the price. I'm not necessarily "pals" of anyone in the FS sections. We just remove posts that aren't pertinent to the ad as far as interested people goes. Someone might not think something is worth $1,000, but to the seller, it might be. The seller is allowed to ask what he/she wants. It's not up to anyone else to tell that seller what to price it. If someone doesn't like the price, they can offer up a lesser price or just move on.

Believe me, I don't enforce/not enforce rules based on personal relationships. Hope this helps, man. Later, QD.

My complaints about prices here are more about non car related items. The civic convo just got started since that was more recent. The only thing i did was link the KBB value in the civic thread.

I usually dont feel inclined to rant in the WL until multiple posts get deleted.

Usually things like this start from me saying something mildly negative to someone and then them wanting to burn me at the stake and start a big rally about 240sx owners being dicks and all this other nonsense that had nothing to do with the topic. This thread for example, why are we even talking about me or my car?

I never comment on someone's car with the intent of looking down on them. I drive a 1993 Nissan, there's people on this forum with z06s, supras, porches, rx7s, skylines.... if there's "calibers" , i dont feel anywhere near the top of it. I have repeatedly told anyone that I would NEVER own a Civic made after 1992 for the simple (almost) fact that pretty much every single one of them has been molested in some sort of way and I would never trust that car. Who cares what they want to ask for their stuff. IA is NOTORIOUS for low ballers so naturally most people will raise the price a bit to compensate for that. I will agree that some people on here think their parts/cars have gold hidden in them and ask a tad too much for them.

This is the exact reason why i rarely ever buy anything off IA members anymore. Back in the day people used to sell parts that they didnt need anymore, sold them at a reasonable price and helped out fellow enthusiast get parts to build their projects with. But over the last few years especially people are only about trying to make a buck off each other. It's so bad you can usually search for the parts they are selling and see WHO and that THREAD they bought them from! I've gotten screwed by more transactions on IA than ANYWHERE. But this is what happens when the board went from having some people truly interested in modifying cars and had the means to do so, and then attracts a bunch of broke ass kids. Many years ago i had to budget for every part i bought. But i saved and got what i wanted, i didn't try and screw over anybody or try and make a buck by selling/flipping shit on here.

The car value argument will never go away, and modified cars are only valuable within the community to somehow who WANTS a modified car. So the book values are thrown out the window. Same goes with exotic/rare cars. I'd LOVE to pay cash for a 98 Supra TT by Book value... but good luck finding one :)

If you don't like his price then just hit the back on your browser. Why go in and bash his thread? Its supply and demand, if something is hard to find in its condition the price will reflect it. Look at the old muscle cars, find one in great shape and they want more $ for it.......

At the end of the day,People will lowball,and people will raise price to compensate.If you were asking 1500$ somebody would off you 700$.Home of Lowballers,shid nothing wrong with that way the economy is to be blunt.Only thing you can do is,look and if you dont like it keep it moving.I hop on Cl everyday and see over priced stock civics for 2500 with 200k.They are running and all that but at the end of the day they know they wont get 2500.So people just place a price higher so they can get what they want.Civics are overpriced just like 240s a clean civic goes for alot just like a clean 240.Anything clean will be over priced if its unmolested.I dont know about the thread you speak of but if its the one I think.
