New Laptop speed

I just bought a brand new Sony Viao yesterday. When it boots up, it takes for fucking ever. Is that just the nature of laptops, or should it boot up quick like a new computer? It's a 2g Centrino processor, so I'd expect it to come up quicker.

Usually from the OEM manufacture they load up a bunch of crap that is not needed. A lot of it starts up when you are booting the computer which makes it slow as shit. Bring it out to a meet this week and I can clean it up a little bit for you.

My new laptop loaded up slow as shit the first time too, but like DP said I got rid of a lot of the worthless garbage and it is MUCH faster.

is there not a way you can also shut it down in a "suspended ram" mode...then it just boots right back to windows when you turn it on??

i thought i heard someone talking about that on one of the carputer forums...

You can do this, but it still uses battery life. Eventually it will drain and die. I would only use it if you temporarily need to shut it down and boot it up soon.

yeah its called hibernate... anyways to remove shit from startup... first remove all you can through their respective options within their own program... THEN

hit start> run... type "msconfig" click the startup tab... only remove those you know which aren't needed... for example msmsgs is msn messenger... also check the path... most things in the Program Files/ directory are not crucial. make sure u dont take away shit like "ATIxa312" and "soundman" those load up your device drivers.

either way good luck... and if worse comes to worst you can always roll back the changes you made with system restore or safe mode... ;)

Eh, thats good advice... but I wouldn't let a newbie touch msconfig just yet.
