My DD/ Track day miata build

Recently I sold my rsx and really wanted to buy something affordable that I could build up and take to road Atlanta for a track day, or have some fun up here in the North GA mountains. I have never owned a rear wheel drive car and was really getting the itch to get one from watching all of these amateur drift videos on youtube. Long story short I ended up purchasing a beautiful 1994 Mazda Miata. Major plans for the car include the typical; coilovers, wheels, roll bar, and an energy suspension bushing kit. And without further adieu heres my mx-5 :)

Nice build thread, if i were going to build a miata i would probably reference your thread and use some of your many pictures and extensive write ups as a guide to avoid potential snares in my own build. sure is cool to open a build thread and see all the progress someone put into a vehicle from start to finish. would probably be lame if their "build" thread was just one picture of some car they owned, that wouldnt be very helpful or entertaining at all.

well normally most build threads are updated as the car is updated...you should be entertained cause your not having to look at another civic.

lol sorry man this hardtop is beautiful. I can always pop it off when it comes track time :) not really feeling the wheels though.... i ordered some spec miata 15x8 +25 wheels and some tein coilovers this week. i cant wait for this stuff to get in! :)

thank you... i wanted something different for the miata. i really like the xxr 513's and 002's but they are just to heavy to do any serious tracking with. That and the fact most miatas have them already.

wheels look great. A guy on campus (SPSU) has a really nice looking front end on his miata. Its a completely different front bumper, but is BEAUTIFUL! I'll try to take a pic soon.

Well the tein coilovers i ordered after 2 weeks of waiting of been discontinued. Ordered another set they should be here in a week or so. Also about to make a purchase on roll bar.

haha thanks man.. no i got some megan coil-overs, they are like 16 way adjustable with pillowball joints and the upper mounts.

yah they are really fun and fairly easy to work on. installing this roll bar has been a bitch by myself lol. Everything is pretty much completed just have to tweek the headlights a bit and then put my interior back in.. (new carpet)

No doubt. Wasn't trying to chastise you on them, I just have run them myself and loathed them personally. You can get 205/50 Toyo R888s for reasonably cheap but it wouldn't take long to turn them to waste if you have them out on the street everyday. Dunlops Z1 Star Specs in 205/50 would be an awesome choice for what you're looking for.

thank you! My soft top has the glass window but with the roll bar installed it barley fits. I just leave the glass and top like that when i ride around town cause its easier to quickly flip down and up

Get some FM top hats that let the car sit lower. You'll get better suspension travel too. Win win.

it doesnt move very much. and only the vinyl is sitting on the glass so its not that bad. It was only temporary till i put the hard top back on for the winter which is going to be today lol

If you're going to track it you should have gone with a HC Bar. It's always better to have the protection. Plus, you get the harness bar for even more safety! haha

On a different note, that diagonal seems to be completely out of the way for the rear-view. I haven't seen that bar before.

Its an early model hard dog bar. It was originally a double diagonal but the left one was cut out by a previous owner because it greatly prevented the driver seat from scooting back. I got it for a steal so it will be sufficient enough for what I plan on doing. If I really get into drift/road racing then ill definitely upgrade to a hardcore.

my exact thought when purchasing them. I like the look of all the xxr wheels but everyone has them. I found these on good-win-racing.com they are discontinued and no one else that I have found carries them. Just wanted to try something different and they remind me of ce28n's. oh and not to mention they are 12.4 pds at 15x8 so that makes me really happy :)
