Wasn't sure where to put this so... if a mod don't like where it is then... move it where you think it would be more appropriate.
I am looking for an alarm system for my car. I was wondering what everyone thought was the best to have out there. I don't want something that is easily bypassed or something that goes off every 3 seconds just because it feels like it is a good time to make random noises and be annoying. Anyways, what kind of alarms do you suggest and why? (Will also be doing remote start for those cold winter days before work)

No, because then half of these people on this site would be trying to steal the car only for that reason and would probably steal the gay guy in the back seat.

That and... I don't think Kevin (Echonova) would appreciate being in the back seat of the car for long periods of time. Never know though.

DEI (Directed Electronics, http://www.directed.com/ )is the company that makes Viper alarms as well as a good number of other brands. They have been around for MANY years and have pretty much beaten everyone else out of the race when it comes to car alarms. Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Hornet and the list goes on, all made by DEI and all are pretty much the same. They acquired Clifford Alarms a while back, not sure if they now manufacture those alarms or not but I would stick with one of their top brand names (listed above). One important thing to consider is to NOT display the VIPER ALARM decal on your window, all this does is tell a thief what kind of alarm you have, making it a little easier on them. Also keep in mind that an alarm is simply a deterrent, anyone with some common sense can bypass an alarm (good thing most thieves are stupid thugs lol). As for false alarms, any brand can do this, if you have the sensitivity of the shock sensor set high then it will go off every five minutes....there needs to be a balance between how sensitive you want it and how sensitive it needs to be. GL
Viper 5900 or Python 880XP are both tried and true elite alarm systems, well priced and both function very well. the shock sensor included is worthless as shock sensors in general dont do nothing. eliminate the shock sensor and get a proximity and glass break sensor, stealth install the alarm and add a ecu AND main relay kill that is triggered by the alarm. relocate the hood latch cable and hide the siren under the wiper bonnet facing DOWN. most will say a battery backup is def needed, but i would say it isnt as long as they cannot get under the hood to the battery... but if the battery is in your trunk i would say a backup would be needed.
i have been using this setup for YEARS on plenty of cars, been driving the cars to the movies and mall at night with no concerns. none of the cars have been stolen thus far *knock on wood
