View Full Version : fuel pressure on the fritz

first off, my car has been having a rough time starting (but i figure thats from my TPS and IACV going bad), but this morning i went to start it, it took about five tries and fired up. i let the engine idle until warm and once it got warm, i got a small leak from my fuel filter...:thinking: i had just put on a new hose so i figured it wasnt tight enough. i cut the car off to tighten it and when i went to turn the car back on it wouldnt start...i tried a few times and still nothin so i look under the hood for anything sketchy. i noticed my when i put my key to start the fuel pump primes but its not holding fuel pressure. when it primes is goes up to 60psi and goes right back down to 0. i'm thinking bad fuel main relay? ALSO, earlier in the week when the car was running it was reading over 100psi fuel pressure, and between 70-80 with the vacuum line removed and return line pinched, but today when i started it held right around 60psi (i didnt get a chance to check the regulator before i saw the leak) so was the high flow and then no flow caused by a fuel main relay?

main relay isn't your problem. Fix the fuel leak at the hose , it should be 2 washers (crush washers) on that bolt . And then replace the regulator with a known good one that is what regulates the fuel either normal psi 36-40 at idle and 48-50 at rev . If you need one I have like 10 laying around .If regulator checks out ok , you will need a fuel pump .

i fixed the leak the two washers are on there. i think the pump is ok its a walbro 255 so im guessing its relatively new but i'll keep that in mind. i'll try the fuel pressure reg. later and post the results, thats actually what i was gonna go buy when the car crapped out on me. i'll pm you about the reg.

i had this happen to me it was my fuel regulator that holds the fuel line on the fuel rail it was showing 100psi and my car would try to flood out when driving it it was missing the little screw thats under the plastic cap

so this morning i found an old fpr in my garage and put it on, it seemed to work the pressure feld at about 38psi when i turned the pump on. the car started no problem. i let it get warm, cut it off, turned it back on (no problem), let it sit for a couple for then cut it off and on, no problem starting, drove it to the gas station, got gas, car turned on no problem, went to a store was only there for a couple mins, left car turned on no problem. now im home, went to leave again and im having to same problem again, no fuel pressure. you here the pump prime, the pressure goes up to 60 and then back down.

please help i need this figured out asap.

Try different Pump.

i it think the problem was the fpr i switched out is alo going bad. i started clamping the return line to get the car started. i did that maybe three times today but its been firing up with out me having to clamp the hose but il see how it plays out tomorrow
