is this for the engine or the tranny? maybe a stupid ? but i dont know much about these things for real, just need a part for my car, so excuse my ignorance please

Its the computer that basically runs the car. The Transmission is controlled by either cables or hydraulics, unless its one of the new electronic gearboxes. But you won't find something that exotic on an old Honda.
