So after the Katrina mess, alot of people are staying at Hotels PAID by FEMA..
Ok, Katrina was Over 2 month ago... And still people are living of FEMA and still complaining about FEMA... sorry I think those motherfuckers need to get of there asses and go to work..
Fucking jackasses were pissed because FEMA was going to stop paying for the Hotels. So because they started bitching some politicians got involved and guess what.. FEMA extended the program.. this is costing FEMA 3 Million a 'day' To cover for all the hotels..
I mean what the fuck have these loosers been doing for the past 2 fucking month ???????
Theres tons of jobs out there.. Might not be the best paying or to be proud of.. but I would much rather be making 5.75 an hour then waiting on a check from FEMA.
I understand this was a major mess. Some lost everything, Families etc etc.. but life fucking moves on.
Fucking wankers.

Well, as of last week, FEMA announced that everyone staying in FEMA sponsered hotels/motels/Holiday Inns have to be out by December 1. So there is the answer. That is giving them about 3 months to do something...which they should have been doing all along. Later, QD.

But I still think that Fema deserves to pay for the victims until they get situated.... Its only right that they do even if this means that they are paying for accomodations for an entire 3 months...
They did a horrible job out in New Orleans when the disaster first took place... I work at a hotel in Roswell and its real funny to me how the story most people know and see on T.V. is so much more different then what the actual "victims" have to say..

I think, if anything, that FEMA could help those that are helping themselves. True. True.
But I dont think anybody is in this thread is in a position of determining who deserves the money vs. who doesnt... It all depends on the individual and its really nobodys buisness but their own... Its simple, if they havent been looking for a job by now then their days are limited... Fema is obviously coughing up the money so I dont see why others have a problem with this..
Shit I know if Atlanta was wiped out today many of us wouldnt have a problem collecting a check or debit cards from Fema regardless of how financially stable we were when the disaster occured... It seems like alot of people are just bitter because they arent receiving any of the money...
As far as saying that people from New Orleans think they are the shit and want others to show pity or that they ask for a discount... Now that is straight up categorizing...

And it is great that you are so caring. YOU are paying for them to stay at your hotel while they do nothing. SO everytime you see that money taken out of your check, you know where it is going. I have no problem with FEMA helping out NO residents but after two months and the water has receeded, it is time to head back and rebuild not stay in a nice hotel in another city while the gv'mt pays for it. Move on with your life. I know if Atlanta was wiped out, yeah we would accept the money but I am pretty sure that most of us would pick up the pieces and move on. Not lay up in a hotel doing nothing for more than three months.
I have to agree with everyone else here,a good 95% of the customers I've had from new orleans expected free sh*t like it was owed to them, I cannot stand that attitude but I guess it is so easy to play the victim.
About the people complaining about FEMA, understand a majority of the people were probably already on some kind of government aid so what else do they really know? As long as the government took care of them they didnt have to go out and find a job. I'll put half the blame on the welfare system for that, this mess was created long before Katrina hit.

Taxes are coming out of my check regardless if they stay there or not... Im not saying its right for someone to lay up in a hotel for 3 months and do nothing for themselves.. But those including you who are ranting DO NOT know for a fact what preparations they are taking... Or do you follow New Orleans victims back to their hotel rooms???
Being a front desk clerk, I am speaking from what I witness first hand.. We have had ALOT of guest check in through FEMA and I have spoken one on one with just about all of them... Most of them found jobs within weeks and were just waiting on an apartment or so... There was even a man who lost an arm due to the situation over there.. Now can you put a pricetag on that ??
I am not from New Orleans nor do I have family... Its just not accurate to say that they all are "looters" & "freeloaders".. Thats like me saying most white people I have met are addicted to meth.. That statement holds no weight..

you are crazy....of course people are taking advantage of the system! it's like someone already said though....it's our fault....we've been giving them food stamps low income housing and all these other handouts that they only expect more now that they are put out.
My family, that is 7 different familes and homes in Louisiana, all put out by the storm.....two of them got calls from their jobs and basically said that they wont have jobs because the company folded....others got calls saying they will not be back to work for months! I was fucking there 3 days after the hurricane hit to go back with my family to survey the damage and see what we could salvage and whatnot....if it were me, I'd take the insurance check and not even look back, knock down whatever's left and just sell the land off....but all my cousins and aunt/uncle wanted to rebuild and get back on their feet as soon as possible....they drove to Texas, Al, and GA to buy supplies (sheetrock, wood, doors, windows) and that's what they did, ALL OF THEM. With no power and running water, they worked to keep themselves busy and cleaned up. Yeah, they couldve stayed with us and just sat here and sulked waiting for the govt to do something, but they didnt........they lost everything just as everyone else, but I do feel that alot are just milking it and waiting for the govt to give them more and more....I dont feel as if it's high as 98%, but I seriously think about 75% is a more realistic number of people trying to milk the system.
there are some that are trying to rebuild and get shit back together, but if you go back to NO now, it's still pretty deserted, compared to this time last year...why? because once they head home, they dont get to live in that nice hotel and have all the amentities at their beck and call....people are treating as a long ass vacation, and I cant wait till they finally get kicked out and head home with no FEMA or Red Cross money left because they spent it all, and you are gonna hear them on the news bitching and whining about how nobody did anything for them...

ANd aloso assume that everyoen wants to go back and rebuild, not everyone wants too. And also assume that people dont want to go back because they are living the good life... LOL the good life? living in a hotel the good life? Fuck that people want to go home. If any of them could go back to how it was the would..i gurantee that.
My family did the same, Some went to Texas, and my cousin and her family came up here to find a house. But for everyone its not as easy as set a stake on the ground and proclaim new land and start over. There are two different sides to everything, and too just look at it and say
"wow those lazy low income idiots woh didnt leave should be kicked on the streets for not being able to get back on there feet in 2 months" is abou as ignoratn as anything.
How you could wish and wait for people to be kicked out on the streets is some dumb shit.

I can wish for them to be kicked out on the streets, because if they are still in hotels, then it's quite OBVIOUS that they havent done anything to go back and try to fix their homes....because it doesnt take anything but a little elbow grease to get things fixed and cleaned. And these people "lining" up to get home? yeah, that was the case at first....but right now, it's free and clear....everyone is allowed to go home now to start with the rebuilding process with the exception of ONE parish, simply because it's 99% destroyed and it's been deemed too far below sea level than the rest of the parishes, this particular parish is also pretty much all low income housing, and it probably houses maybe 10-20,000 at most, you have thousands if not more staying at hotels on the govt's dollar and they have the okay to head home to start with the rebuild....what's stopping them? Money? doubtful, because FEMA issued out those $2000 debit cards, Red Cross handed out those debit cards ranging from $500-$1500. Plus, insurance companies have already swept thru the area issuing checks as well. There is no fucking reason to be in those hotels....I saw families setting up tents outside their homes to sleep...they didnt go to any hotels......why? because they wanted to get shit cleaned up and rebuilt.
You are a moron if you seriously think people who are staying at these hotels are begging to go home and some almighty hand is holding them back....yeah, the hand that is holding them back is the hand that feeds them....

it's "coffins" and yeah...that does suck....we saw a few that were stacked on the side of the roads because they washed up. Right now though, pretty much everyone minus the people who live out near the Rigolets have power and running water....
and for people who didnt know, Louisiana's ground is too moist for underground burials, so alot of graves are above ground, so when it floods, every now and then, those cement tops come off and the coffins float out, and sometimes they open and sometimes they dont.

AAAAAHHAHAHA free and clear my ass.. NO isnt back up and runnin yet, you still cant go into baout 80% of the city. I dont know where u are gettin your info.
Youc ant doo that much with 2000$ get real this is the real wqorld, hell ive spent taht much in a month.
just b//c your family got back on the right path dont mean everyone can, i see youve got soem sort of tunnel vision. Elbow grease cleaned up? i hope that was a joke..most of those homes are destroyed, im sure if they just fly back and get soem 409 and a mop and a bucket it will be all back to normal...WOW tlak about joke of the day.
I mean i guess yoru right, go ahead and just categorize the bad peoeple doing the wrong thing and taking advantage of this whole situtation and just say that everyone that hasnt got back straight yet after 2 month are lazy fools...and deserve to live on the street. IT seems to be the right thing to do, and go ahead and assume that everyones not doign anything.
I for one know first hand that thousands and thousands of peeps cant go back yet....my own family hasnt been allowed back to even pick up anything that can maybe be salvaged. And besides them looking for a house and getting there kids back in school and getting back on there feet.
Fema gave debt cards - Red cross gave housing and food - Insurance companies took care of the all salvage claims for vehicles - house all that. IF you were insured for flood damage. And they helped find ppl new homes and whatever they go. You all act like its hurting you to see them get a bit more time... I mean if they wanted to give 911 victims more money noone would have a problem.
what gives anyoen the right to tell when someones trying... you dont know there situation what they are doign, and what they are going thru. I would say the same thing. I know it's not exactly the same thing, but, in a way, the same results. People, white/black/whatever, need to start getting their shit together and get back to rebuilding their lives.
My main thought is I don't see a problem with FEMA helping people that are doing something to help themselves. I'm sure they could keep a database of people who are working and trying to earn some sort of living on their own. These are the people that FEMA should help. It all goes back to the saying: Help those who help themselves. I believe in that. Later, QD.

sounds like you have tunnel vision with your family. And, my family got screwed....but do they whine or want to live in a hotel or ask for any handouts? no. They all live on Poncetrain...all their piers that extend out so we can fish were completely wiped out, boats gone, cars gone, everything was FLOODED...but the insurance companies wouldnt cover FLOOD damage because their houses are on the stilts....everything that was on the 1st floor, is gone...and they dont get jack for it. Not one cent. The most they are getting is Wind Damage insurance. Which is basically broken windows, roofing, and the area where my family lives, all the stairs are gone...from the wind or from the waters? who really knows....but insurance companies want to say water so they dont have to shell out money for it.
goto Nola.com there's a message board and I get my info from there and my family.
From the sounds of it, sounds like you have family in these hotels.
Fema gave debit cards and so did Red Cross. Dont act like Red Cross is only giving food and housing, they gave money as well. FEMA is also delivering mobile trailers to people who are AT their homes, and you requested them. My Uncle has one plopped right in front of his house...and he didnt even want it.
I feel bad for the people who come back to nothing and dont know wether to rebuild or just pick up and leave....BUT there are too many people who are taking advantage of this and all they can do is keep putting their hand out for more hand outs. I think that's the biggest thing you cant understand...they want sympathy and expect too much...just like the 800 people who were put on a Carnival Cruise ship and complained that it was a plot to keep them off the streets and contained in one area...wtf? they were put on a luxury cruise liner and could do whatever they pleased, yet they complain? I dont know why you have this Robin Hood feather up your ass, but you need to wake up and stop being a ignorant fool and want to continue keep giving handouts....that's the problem we are having now....people always want more. more, more, more. Once you give them what they want, they still wont be satisfied, because someone will complain, and then another and then another and then a chain starts with everyone wanting more. People are greedy, you, me, them.
If you have spent $2000 in 1 month with free housing and free food, then you need to learn how to spend more wisely...that sounds like a money issue if anything and you better take a econ and accounting class, because from the sounds of it, your ass will be on the streets soon.
And I am 100% serious about "Elbow Grease", all it fucking takes is some motivation and have at it. I shoveled black mud for 3 days that was a foot high. We moved a boat, and all sorts of debris that got caught under the house and shit that was around the house. My cousin had a god damn tree across his whole house, and yet he was able to cut it all down and put a tarp over his roof. Dont be so fucking lazy, if you cant help yourself, then no one can help you. Sounds like you would just sit back and not do shit if you were in a natural diaster, and that's why your ass would be crying for more, and that's why you are arguing the fact that people are lazy and wont get off their ass's.
You want to know a good way to make easy money? Fucking goto Louisiana right now....and start doing contract work. My cousins are all doing that, and getting paid big time for it. I plan on heading there for my whole christmas break and doing the same. We all know there's no shortage of work....there's still alot to clean up, but people are too "proud" to do manual labor.
if you are so hell bent on giving more and have no problem with it, sell your new car and your old one and donate the money...
I cant even begin to tell you how much I have spent/donated. I cant even tell you how much of my own money that I used to buy cases of water to bring down to my family and their neighbors and random strangers. I have no problem giving to people who need help....but people who cant help themselves will get 0 sympathy from me.

ALSO....alot of mortgage companies and some credit card companies were allowing people extensions or putting a freeze on their account so that they wouldnt be hit so hard with all those bills. Trust me, plenty of people and companies are being sympathetic.

I do have to agree with Peter on that last quote. When you have nothing and you get a check for $2,000, you don't need to worry about anything but survival with it. You spending 2k is a lot different than a misplaced person/family spending 2k. 3/4 of your 2k was spent on a car. These families don't need to worry about a car. There is MARTA for that. There are pleeeennnttttyyyyy of jobs on the bus/rail lines to get.
When I speak of survival, I speak on living off of TV dinners and either store brand cokes or Kool-Aid and some shit like that. Not going to Ruby Tuesday's or even to McDonald's. I know you can spend a lot more at McDonald's on the $Menu than you can to feed that same family from Wal-Mart for a week. Loafs of bread and TV dinners. may not like it, but it's about survival and coming up, right now. Not comfort. Later, QD.

Are you fucking retarded? If these people spend that $2000 in one month, while they have free housing, and free food...what the fuck are they spending it on? You still arent including Red Cross money or anything ontop of what insurance cut them....if you didnt already know...insurance companies will give you a number on what they want to give you, and then you get a insurance adjuster to go back and look over those numbers and actually tell the insurance companies what you need, and if you get a good adjuster, it's always a good amount and a little extra ontop to help you out.
Who said anthign about spending more than 2000$ in a month...i said they might need more. That was my example of my spending in the past month.. Sorrry i know many appreciate and love the money, but 2000$ aint really alot of money.
Whos to say whos doing what and whos not doing waht.... If they wont take the time out to get a system together to keep track of expenses to weed out the BSers and the legit families who need it, than let them continue to give . 98%? man youve got other issues..with them or something like some NO ppl killed your puppy or seomthing. You get that FEma check, and than right behind that you get bills in the mail from your flooded out house in NO, and other expenses still lef tover. AMn you dont jsut move away and start over. you got to catch up there and than come start over. Your talkin out of your ass....i know about 95% of ppl on IA would be devastated and stuck in a hard place for waaay longer than 2 months, if they lost everything they owned.
i dont know how u can say that 98% of evacuees are taking advantage of the system is one of the dumbest tihgns ive ever heard...fuckin ridiculious. Im not just sayint hat b/c ive got alot of family that have left NO its just in general. how can u assume that everyoen has family to runt oo when times get hard, and that everyone has someone to go to when they are left with nothing..
How many ppl within 1 weeks notice could just get up and move away, and find another job to support a family form scratch with nothing, u do waht you got to do...an get it done but it takes time..
I dont see why it bothers anyone that much, its not like u got people on the news begging for shit, they arent even letting people go home, and help clean up there own areas. Theyahd thousands of residents wanting to go back and help cleanup and get paid for it anda hourly rate. That would have been a great help
Dont know why you are so uptight about it. I was raised to be smart and move on and not depend on anyone else... I have 2 legs and 2 arms and aslong as I have those.. I will work my ass off no matter where or what I have 2 do.
And yeah 2 g's is not alot.. But when you dont do shit to earn and just handed off to you is alot.. actually is as good as a tressure.
N.O. was one of the lowest income city anyways of the U.S now tell me thats all BS also.. shit 2k was more then what some have....
Theres motel on the sides of the Hwys for about 140 a week... Even working @ mcdonalds can cover that.
I work for Racetrac, The company lost a few stores. Guess what They moved most of the employees over here and of course they are working here in ATL for the meantime.
I think They had like 4 store that hit about 50 employees.. Not sure How many all together.. But all I know is only 2 employees decided not to come to the ATL to work. Who knows where they went.
Some lost everything they had.. But oyu know what They have kept there head up.....
BTW pictures and Videos of looters dont lie... theres more of that then actual good stories.
i aint uptight about shit, i am uptight about saying some bS about 70% of them arent trying at all.. Get the fuck out of here. i didnt respond until thje whole 90% - 70% wasnt trying at all.

Actually Like billions of others have done in this world.. you can start from Nothing. so thats not the point.
What I think is there is more people pulling FEMA's and the Red Cross Leg then theres actually people who need help.
I mean, 3 mill a day in hotels room is alot.
Lets say FEMA is paying 60 bucks a room, wich Im willing to bet they are paying less VIA discount due to this mess.. thats 50 k Rooms...
50,000 ROOMS!!! Thats alot. .. So lets say they are keeping 2 ( adults or old enough to work) people per room.. ( I bet More ) But lets say 2.. What the hell have 100,000 people have done for the past 2 month?
hnmm..
thats 200 million in 2 months jsut for hotels... how much was donated?
Soooo again whats wrong with more help for people who NEED it?
Julio
11-25-2005, 08:22 PM
So what do you think that 200 million has been ? I would consider that as part of donation and help.
They have until I think DEC 15 to find an apartment + they will get like 2300 bucks from FEMA... That should atleast cover 3 month of rent.
S
They have until I think DEC 15 to find an apartment + they will get like 2300 bucks from FEMA... That should atleast cover 3 month of rent.

that is what this is about them getting more help...right?
Julio
11-25-2005, 08:34 PM
Whats wrong with that ? You still asking? How many people truely deserve that money ? Not many.. I mean, How many are handicaps out of all those staying in hotels?.. And when I say handicap I mean missing something.. Not just " I have back problems So i cant work" type deals...
I think alteast 50 % of them shouldve atleast already have a job and a place...
I mean, How you going to tell me, That 2 month ago FEMA started paying for the hotels....
And still to this date, They are paying the same amount... Meaning the same people are still leaving there..
And once again? What have these people done for the past 2 month?
And once again? What have these people done for the past 2 month?
Are they paying the same amount?
If noone can say that noone has done anything than... how can You?
They keep track of food stamps and who gets them and what they do with them.. Adn they keep track of your income... SOOO why not keep track of the people who are getting millions of free money. If they dont want tooo than...why do u? i woudl if i was giving away all that money.

I had this debate about 2 hours ago with my neighbor....dont worry Scortboy...these people will probably never leave the hotels on their own will power....because in the end, we give them deadlines and once it gets close, they will start with the uproar on how we dont care and how we arent helping, and then Rev Jesse Jackson will come in flapping with his cock holster on how George Bush hates black people.
Julio is 100% right....there is PLENTY of work to be found wether it be in the area they are staying or back in NO.....it still boils down to people not wanting to be garbage men, burger flippers, walmart employees....if you go back to NO, you can make $500-1000 just tarping a roof, and then about $15-20 a hour tearing down sheetrock or even shoveling junk.
I'm sick of people feeling sorry for themselves...you lost everything....okay, we can get you a helping hand but then you are gonna have to put in some leg work too.
fuck scortboy, look at your family....they bought a new house and started life again....are they staying in a hotel just chilling and not worrying about shit?
and Julio is right again, many of these people didnt even have $2000 before this storm even was tracked....so they shouldve known the value of a lump some of money. Plus the $500-1500 Red Cross was giving out to everyone....
goto Nola.com, and you will see locals bitching about people just not even worrying about going home or coming back.
Show me your refrences and numbers.....if you provide one link from NAACP or the Senator from Del or any Anti-Bush websites, I will disregard all that information because they are just idiots.

okay, QD, Julio, Me, and JITB are all correct to an extent.
since I am spending my whole christmas break down in Louisiana, I just got off the phone with my uncle again and here is the scoop.
If your home was damaged more than 50%, then FEMA has to send inspectors to your home to get the exact depth of your current home....apparently any house with more than 50% damage has to be raised to 9ft from whatever their current sea level is. You are not suppose to repair your home unless you have been visited by the FEMA inspectors and given the okay and issued the proper permits to begin construction. You are able to live at your residence, and if your residence does not provide you with sufficient shelter, you can request or will be issued a mobile trailer that you can use and after your home is suitable to live again, you have the option to purchase the mobile home for half of it's value worth.
at this point in time, all the hotels in the local area are inhabited by out of state contractors looking to make a quick dollar. They are urging residents of Louisiana to return home and pick up some local contract work if their jobs have not been returned yet, because it has proved to be a very good source of income.
all homes built after 1998 have to be 12ft above the sea level their home currently sits on, but many of the newer homes faired very well because they already should meet that requirement.
so basically older homes are screwed because, with whatever damage they incurred, they have to have the house dug up and etheir more concrete poured onto the concrete slab foundation, or in worse case scenario, lifted up on pilings. Most of the older homes should already be within 4-5 ft above the sea level they sit on, so only need another 4-5ft to go, but this is a very costly construction job, and it's unclear if insurance will cover this 100%.
FEMA inspectors are going from Parish to Parish, so it is a slow process, but the biggest problem they are having is people not being at their homes and not having any current contact information and people dont know what they want to do once the inspectors come by their homes....they want more guidance on what to do... so that is taking more time from the inspectors to move quickly to give the "go" or "no go" on construction and permits for your home.
Its messed up, gonna take soem time to track down all those ppl..

apparently that's sucking alot too, because they really dont want to move onto another parish until they hit 100% with whatever they are working on, because chances are once they push thru, they wont make their way back to that area for quite sometime.
