gun question....

so i had a few gun items for sale on CL and i get a text at 5am that he wanted to buy my stuff and if i was willing to sell my upper slide on my pistol he was willing to pay $400 for it, many question came to my head...why would someone pay $400 for the slide and not pay $400 for a gun itself?? Then a bunch of illegal things came to mind and weird...Then he say that he was from NY and buying a gun was hard up there. Also said that he was buying it for his dad that lives in dominican republic and that he was in the forces...
Was this fishy or what? and is it legal whatever this person was doing??? Either way i wasnt planning to sell my gun nor my slide...

Yes people do buy slides all the time to replace old worn ones. I'm not sure what you do to sell one legally but some ppl file numbers off and sell others do it like a complete gun sell with papers and proof they sold it.
Yeah IMO I'd never sell a slide with out a FTF sale with papers.

Sell him the whole gun for that price FTF. Get a bill of sale and be done with it. What they do with it afterwards is not your problem.

I wouldn't sell just the slide.
