Wanted to share my new ride with everybody. Its a 2003 Evo VIII. Once we find the time here at the shop we need to finish up the wiring on the car, toss it on the dyno for a base tune, break in the motor then re-tune for E-85 and some real boost. It might be a month or two before you see it on the streets though, we are very busy here and customers cars come first.

Quick run down of whats going on...
Forged Performance Built Shortblock
Shepherd Built Transmission and Transfer Case
Carbonetics Triple Disc Clutch
Full Race Twin Scroll Turbo Kit
Full Race Vertical Core Intercooler(Super rare)
AMS 1000HP Fuel Package
HKS F-Con Standalone
HKS Hypermax Coilovers
Ray's 57 Motorsports wheels

I dealt with them for years, they are REALLY good clutches. Things happen though.

Hahhaa! Well its not drivable right now cause the wiring still needs to be finished up and needs a tune. Once its done and it spends some time with Mirror Detailing then it will receive a REAL shoot.

For the Evo only 10 were made because they couldnt get the cores to make them....so its uberjdmtyte....or something along those lines, as well.

It currently has a GT4088R. We are going to tune that on wastegate pressure for me to drive it for a few weeks to break in the motor. Then I am going to switch to a custom built, billet wheel twin scroll 33R turbo with a 1.0 a/r. It currently is on stock intake manifold and throttle body but after I upgrade those it should make 550-ish with 4,000+ RPM of full boost.

This was going to be a Forged Performance shop car but it was never completed. I bought it as it sits and will be finishing the project. It is mostly complete besides the head could use some port work, better cams and I will be changing a few things(like the turbo) to better fit my personal goals for the car.

thats wsup Chad! Thanks for not getting white =) cant wait to see it all done!LOL! I know right! I really wanted an electric blue one but this was such a good deal with so many high quality parts I couldn't pass it up.

Chad can I ask what do you want out of the car?

The car will be a weekend driver and track monster, both drag and road course. I want an all around performance car. That is why I am taking the 4088R off and am planning to switch to a custom billet wheel 33R turbo. On E-85 it should still make mid 500's but still have a wide powerband so I can take it to a road course a couple times a year.

The plan is JDM rear, Carbon side skirts, black housing headlights with 8 front bumper with a nose chop and carbon lip.

like this....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/RawBurt/The%20Evo/2010-02-06153949.jpg

The wheels are very understated, which I do like. Also not many people run Rays 57 Motorsports wheels which makes the car somewhat different, which is hard to do. I might go to TE37 Super laps or RE30's in silver one day but for now other things are a priority.

I was gonna ask about that. What is so much more efficient about the vertical versus a horizontal intercooler?

Sorry if I'm asking to many questions and stalking your thread. I'm just really interested in this build.

What you think about that wrinkle red valve cover huh? Type ARRRHHHH tYt3 y0!

From what I have read Full Race only made about 10 proto-types of these vertical core FMIC's. They could not get the cores on a consistent basis and had to stop making them. The advantage is in turbo response and spool vs a standard FMIC. This set-up eliminates 22 inches of charge piping!

EmminoDaGreat
07-06-2011, 12:06 PM
I like the type r valve cover, and the smoke like a muffugga from sitting so long with a blown up motor residue, i bet lol!!

I dont think that advantage applies to all vertical flow FMIC's as it would solely depend on if you reduced the amount of piping, dimensions of the intercooler, piping diameter etc... What I do like about certain vertical flows is that more often then not the end tankes are tapered, and it cools the air more efficiently since you are using the whole intercooler, instead of a horizontal where airflow may not actually flow through to cool charged air. IE bumper blocking etc.

Less piping, and area = less volume = less work the turbo has to do to fill these areas, creates less lag, and less boost drop over the system.

CHADbee
07-06-2011, 12:34 PM
You are correct sir lol this motor was built over a year ago and has just been sitting. I was very happy to see it started so easily.

For a person like me who is very concerned about spool the Full Race vertical core FMIC system is great. Hopefully the combonation of that set-up, twin scroll manifold and a billet wheel custom 33R turbo will give me the power band I am after. The last thing I want is a curve like the black neon lol

Bwahhaa! Because the motor was built and then sat for a year I want to make sure there is no leaks or any other minor issues. Plus I dont want to do a high boost tune on pump gas and the 4088R.
