Just picked up a 2002 Wrx. Don't plan on modding too much until next year after i graduate with my Bachelors. I was a big Honda/Acura guy; full built a 95 integra a few years back. We will see how i like the AWD platform. One of the first things i want to get rid of, are these ugly side mirrors and shift knob that were put on. The car seems to fall off up top instead of holding til redline; i need to get an ecu or "reflash". On my Integra, my ECU was one of the best things i ever did, so looking forward to getting some kind of engine management. Today i ordered a blox shift knob and a stock bpv to put back on (has a forge bov now).

trust me, you're gonna love it. Can't go wrong with a suby.
Those headlights look pretty odd as well imo.

Don't the headlights usually come with a cover over the lens, i'd replace that as well. Other than that it's a subie, so it's good

I plan to put some stock headlights back on, these are terrible. I also don't like the side mirrors. I ordered my dash kit/wiring harness to put my head unit in today. I want to replace the dash clock with the 3 gauge pod. Wideband, Boost, and Oil Pressure.

all stock turbo'd subaru's fall on their face post 5500 rpm's...small turbo.
no amount of tuning will change that.
the morette's (headlight), you should be able to sell pretty easily

Good starting platform, losing the mirrors and headlights is a great idea.

Welcome to the Subaru family! Those headlights...I wouldn't say are rare, but there hard to come by in good condition. You won't have a problem selling them like yerrow said because they are no longer in production.

be careful with that 02, they're known blowing trannys(even at stock power)
as for the headlights, they're not morrettes. they look like uk300's
check out wrxatlanta.com! and enjoy the subaru

You'll love the car. Subura's are notorious for bad tunes. Grab yourself an AP and the dead top end will disappear.
Edit: I've seen you around town and on campus before. In the 2011 DGM here. :)

Right now it has a 2.5 straight pipe, im about to put a vibrant muffler on it i have laying around. I will do a 3" turbo back once i have some extra funds, but this will work for now. Wired up some subs and a kenwood excelon head unit today.

You're right.
But what would you expect from a stock turbo, lol.

hopefully the transmission will hold up. Im honestly not sure if the one in there is the original. From all the issues these apparently have, it may have been replaced.

the 02 5spd is different than the 07, but just as a reference i'm running a 20g td06 8cm with all supporting mods @ 363whp and 341 wtq on a stock tranny and clutch. previous owner had the turbo on a 03 @ 370whp and held fine for 45k miles.
as long as you dont launch or slam 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd, you'll be fine. since its used i'd suggest changing out your tranny fluid and maybe rear diff
and as for everything saying those are morrettes, they're not.

oh i def plan to change the tranny and dif fluid in the next few weeks. been reading on clubwrx the right ''concoction'' to use. gonna swap the spark plugs to some bkr7e iridiums as well. i havent really slammed gears or launched it; i want to keep my dd unbroken.

I usually go with motul 300 for the fluid. Has worked well for me and helps going into 1st while moving. Everyone has been talking about a syncromesh thats also suppose to be awesome.
the transmissions aren't as bad as everyone says. No they aren't the greatest, but the guys who rally them use stock transmissions and do just fine. And trust me, they beat on their cars all day long. I've had my 02 since oct, stock trans, 140k miles when I got her, changed my fluid before once my first race in November (now been through 4 races, one all day test and tune, and over 20k miles) and it's doing just fine.
The headlights are good and you won't have any trouble selling them.
check into accessport if you are looking for engine management.
If you are interested at all in rally you can check out dirtyimpreza.com they have tons of information or PM me.
