wow wtf?

So i have arp 8mm ls rod bolts.
First I lube them up with arp ultra-torque faster assembly lube.
Then torque them to 14ft/lbs first step on each side then 26ft/lbs for final. thats what arp said for me to do.
It was my last set of rod bolts to tighten. Torqued 14ft/lbs each side then 26ft/lbs. My final bolt to torque to 26ft/lbs and torque wrench didnt click.
then kABOOM!! rod bolt snapped...my heart was racing like WTF!?!?:thinking:
it broke on the treads but not where i was torquing at

What caused the bolt to snap? torqued to much?
and i hear arp is only stretch but not snap so easily.....
either way i called arp and they are sending me a replacement bolt for free :goodjob:
but machine shop isnt gonna redo it for free either..... or would they? lol

same shit happen with me when doing a d16y7 mini me y8 head swap lol. had to fish + twist the bolt out of the head with a magnet

It could be the tourqe wrench no doubt but remember everything man made had flaws. I would send the bolt back to arp they normally want to check things like this for there on research. I just feel like if your tourqe wrench was off that much you would have broke more then one and should have none you was having to use alot more then 26 pounds of tourqe. I had a guy break one on some eagle rod bolts last week and he said it looked strecthed from the last time he used them. All this realy bothers me because i build alot of motor and i already have to check behind every machine shop i just dont have time to check to see if every arp bolt has a flaw in it.

I dont see why you need the machine shop the rest of the bolt will tap out and tap back in with ease good luck on your build and deffently have your tourqe wrench checked 26 pounds isnt much at all. Rod bolts at 26 pounds? hell the little bolts in the cam caps tourqe to 19 pounds on a h22 and the stock rod bolts on a h22 are 36 pounds i beleive . Ill have to look it up and although the combustion is pushing down on the crank (no pressure on rod bolts) but still 26 pounds isnt much is this a small motor just wondering?

if you dont mind get a closer and clearer picture on both the thread sides of were the bolt broke please. As some one that uses these alot this realy concerns me .I just dont see it being your fault first build or not. If anything , with it being your first build i would expect you to be nerves and a take a little bit more time making sure eveything was done right not over tourqing bolts thanks.

Yeah I don't really like the concept of the 26 ft lbs. I like the stock gsr 33 ft lbs so I just do that even if it is a bit hard headed. I've never broken a rod bolt but I also have a Snap on torque wrench.

yea me either i think regular ls bolt is 29 ft/lbs i forgot but close to there
but i still dont understand that why does it have to be the last bolt on the last set of rods i was torquing down?
anyways im still getting a new replacement bolt from ARP so hopefully nuthing else goes wrong
