K20a turBO?

Is it possible to turbo charge a K20a motor. Even though its a Type R motor. N if so how much boost can it handle....? and is the K20a worth gettin or a K20a2?

yes. its possible to turbocharge anything for the right price. well seeing as the motor is high compression probably not alot of boost. probably no more than 6-8lbs. but with the right set up and tuning you can make quite alot of power out of 6-8 psi. IMO your killing the spirit of the car with a turbo but to each his own. you might want to talk with some of the shops around your area, they would beable to tell you alot more than i can as far as pricing and capabilities of the motor. ive seen some impressive K20 turboed motors b4. especially the south florida turbo cars, they r some mean ass K20's

do not bother turboing a K20A3, the K20A2 has massive potential

suppose thats one way to lookat it, but its not a Type R, just the motor.. depends where your enthusiasm is for the car/engine... Personaly i love my Ep3, so putting in a turbo Type R motor would just make the car that much more amazing, ofcourse its more realstic to get the A2 especialy if you want to rebuild the motor anyays, i know theres not much difference between the A2 and A as their is between the A/A2 and the A3

the cams and intake manifold in the motor are good with boost, but the higher compression isnt....

well that high compression actually helps the bottom end power b4 that turbo is fully spooled. if you were to drop the compression and raise boost pressure you might kill your throttle responce. i would think a nice 8-10 psi on a larger gt28-30 turbo with some top end would make it quite the rocket tuned with a nice standalone. most race motors using forced induction run a fairly high rate of compression, grated no where near N/A campaigns (14.1 +) but still higher than your stock motor most likely. its all tuning

high compression+any reasonable amoutn of boost+honda motor=short life span AKA "pop"

honda tuners also typicaly use smaller turbos to compensate for boost lag do to small displacement engines. ofcourse if your doing larger boost you need a larger turbo so it depends on application.

2.0 really isnt that small for todays FI engines. and i didnt mean higher compression i meant stock. and a small turbo only helps your low end power. why wouldnt you want to increase top end, thats where yer motor shines anyways? i wouldnt want a turbo that reachs threshold far to low in the power band and dies out b4 it makes any real power. sure your going to accelerate alot faster outta the hole, but run outta breath far too soon and have a real flat spot in your power curve. not to mention the kind of heat it would produce at higher RPM's do to greater back pressure. and with all the technology in turbo's today (ie ball bearings) their really isnt an issue with lag anymore like there used to be. plus small turbo's that spool too fast on a FWD car = wheel spin hell <---i would know lol.

not everyone can afford a expensive BB turbo. most people go for the cheapest route possible. personally i would not, but people who go the cheap route have to consider these things.

if i were going to turbo my own car(2002 civic si K20A3) i would defintely use a BB turbo of some kind. it just makes sense to do so.
