no i got rid of the Z32 because i'm in college and it's just not a good car for me to have right now. i'm gonna get another one when i graduate.
and as allout13 said, hard dog is a company that makes rollbars for miatas.

Yeah. I've got work to do and no time. I have to get that motor in, do the clutch, slave, motor mounts, and a new rack and pinion at the same time. haha. But as soon as I get the time, it's going in. Then I'll be focusing on some more cosmetic stuff. They're addictingly fun to drive, but need a little boost in power (at least mine does.) You'll have a bit more power than I with the much lower mileage BP-4W though.

And I've always been a fan of that nose in that color.

But just for fun... this is my girlfriend's car. (given to her by her grandmother) :( Won't let me do anything but drive it. Only driven for brief periods in spring and fall.

i feel you on the little BOOST of power.

oh my dear god.

that's a 10ae?
looks like an 01+ front to me and the 10ae was '99
aslo weren't the 10ae's all in that exclusive blue with the matching interior?

i would kill for that. freaking immaculate.
i'm actually looking to get a set of those wheels to put on mine, unless i can find something aftermarket that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

also, forgive my ignorance, as i'm still new to miatas,
BP-4W?

Lol... yup. Not a 10ae. I don't pay much attention to NBs simply because I don't have one.

The BP-4W is the engine in the early NBs if I'm not mistaken. 98-2000.

figured it was an engine code.

i thought all the NB's had the same 1.8 though? or at least the same block. i know the 01+ had a different header and a few other small things i believe.

Wheels first, springs will always be on that site. The Wheels wont always be there.

Echonova
03-23-2011, 10:06 PM
Depends... I would say the springs because those rims need tires, which is even more money out of the door.

But, if you need to get tires anyway then I would do the rims first. The springs will always be available at that price.

Edit: Gah!!! I got ninja'd

ava_Z32
03-23-2011, 10:44 PM
i'm kinda leanin towards the springs because of the fact that those wheels do need tires. i've still got a decent amount of tread life left on my 14's and i'm thinking if i wait i may find another set of those 15's that have some decent rubber on them and maybe even located a little closer to me.

i'd LOVE to get some aftermarket wheels, but i just can't find any i think would look good for less than like 500.

alpine_aw11

If I were you I would save a little cash and grab Megan springs with a good set of shocks if you don't want to run a full coilover. I can promise you won't notice a difference unless you really want green springs instead of orange lol.

ava_Z32
03-24-2011, 12:30 PM
i don't wanna skimp on anything. i know that the S techs aren't the best things out there, but they're still pretty good. and i will follow up with a good set of shocks in the future. it's just gonna be a slow process. i just can't justify buying anything megan, when the difference really isn't THAT much in price.

iamdallas
03-24-2011, 12:52 PM
Tein S-techs are great for street use. But you'll need some good shocks to go with them.

Coilovers are so much nicer and not really that much more expensive after you buy nice springs and shocks.

the only beef I have seen with them is that they are not good for slamming a miata. lots of people who bought expensive coilovers trash them. Grassroots motorsports actually got them on a shock dyno and had good things to say about them. plus, with the warranty they come with, it is a win win.

Seriously. I fucking love miatas and always lunge at the opportunity to hop in the driver seat, but if you throw some bs suspension on it, you'll ruin it's sole. Don't skimp on the on the only masculine part of the Miata.

None of those cheapass coilovers have adjustable dampening. Get some Koni shocks and GC spings/collars. Don't be an uber cheapass either.

03-26-2011, 12:56 PM
well the thing is i can't slam it. not around athens and especially not with the speed bumps in my neighborhood.

so Konis and GCs? i'm guessing you guys all are referring to ground control?
doppleganger, i was hoping you'd chime in at some point. you probably don't remember me but i met you at one of the alpharetta meets at the barnes and noble. i had a white z32.

the main thing is, i want to beef up my suspension without going too low. i literally have about an inch and a half of clearance on the speed bumps in my 'hood. that's as much as i can drop.
also i'm on a budget. i don't mind saving but i need to be realistic.

so, still Konis and GCs?

You can drive my car if you want and decide how you like them if it's not raining Sunday.

Koni and ground controls, and some bronze 15x8 6ULs with some sticky 205/50s and you'd be set for when you wanna turbo it and beef up the brakes down the road.

Look for a slightly used set, or buy eBay coilovers, use the sleeves, buy GC springs (springs are much less minus the sleeve) and buy the Konis new or slightly used.

so, would i be able to, for the time being put these GS's: http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/20-1068.html

Doppelgänger

Yes, but expect to blow the stock shocks with a quickness as they hate any chanve in static ride height. Keep an eyes on places like soloatlanta, roadraceautox, sccaforums, and miata.net for used shocks/springs. There are good deals to be had.

I scrape on shit all the time, not really all that bad, but I'm not trying to look good/be cool/be slammed either.

ava_Z32
03-27-2011, 05:52 AM
yeah i'm on a lot of forums so i'll definitely be keeping a look out for some shocks/springs on there.
are tokico blues worth a damn?

also, i have seen some 10ae bilstein take offs. would those be worth investing in?

and yea i just don't wanna damage anything and i'd really rather not have a chewed up front end from dragging it across speed bumps daily.
i mean if i scrape i scrape but mainly i just want something that performs well. i'm not looking to be slammed or hellaflush or any of that fad shit. yes, i'd like to look aesthetically pleasing, but it's not my main concern. and i'm not gonna sacrifice performance for looks. form<function

Skip on the blues.

Honestly, I'd grab a set of Illuminas(run these on my daily and they have been more than I could ever ask for out of a set of shocks, still going strong after ~3 years) or Koni Sports, and just go with a set of Racing Beat springs.

The bilsteins could be nice but they lack adjustment and are all probably worn out in some shape or form.

Elbow

I've used Illuminas on a non Miata before and liked them, I had AGXs and Tein springs on my Miata, I actually liked the AGXs but HATED the Teins. I'd also pass on the Blues.

I haven't read everything, are you set on a coilover sleeve or would you be interested in a good spring? A good shock/spring combo with a few other suspension bits can provide a very nice handling Miata. You just won't have ride height adjustability but...

i'm not dead set on a coilover sleeve but i'd much prefer it. i'd feel a lot better have the adjustability, but if i can come up with a good shock/spring combo that is just too good to pass up, i might jump on it. i mean i can always get some relatively good shocks and some springs and then go with adjustable sleeves later on.

ok guys i'm being needy again. i figure i'll just post questions in this thread rather than clutter up the forums with new threads.

hopefully going to be ordering some new wheels come friday if funds allow.
now i've been doing a lot of research and i think i've gotten an understanding of how offset works, but i honestly don't really know how much is needed for my miata specifically.
i'm gonna be going from the 14" stockers to some 15x7s.

my end goal is to have ABOUT a 2 inch drop and run 205/50's or 45's. i'd like the wheels to sit as flush as i can get them.

i am NOT going for a slammed or hellaflush look. just want it to fit nicely. as far as i can tell, i'm gonna need a bit of positive offset. could anyone provide some insight, as to how much and maybe thoughts on tire size? thanks.
