Fellow photogs:

I'm thinking of selling my 50mm 1.4 and getting the 35mm 1.8. Yay or nay?

I want a wider fixed and the 35mm has been getting rave reviews. Am I missing anything?

Or should I just buy the 35mm and keep the 50mm?

I was in the same situation. I bought the 35, thought I didn't want the 50 anymore so I sold it. Ended up missing the focal length (in a prime) so I bought another 50.

the 35 has 1.8 kinda ugly bokeh to it....but its sharp as fuck....as long as you dont stop down wider than f5.6 then your fine.

if you want it....sell your 50 1.4 and buy a 35 1.8 and 50 1.8

I never liked the 50mm focal length, so I sold mine n have been very happy with my 35mm. Everything I shoot is close up, I only have a tele zoom for track events.

That's the one problem I've seen, the bokeh. Which is sorta my issue with getting rid of the 1.4, since it looks so great down low. I'll think I'll just get the 35, i just wanted a good street lens, and find that the 50mm is a little too long for just walking around and shooting stuff, but it does such killer portrait stuff, I hate to get rid of it.

OR you could just trade me your 50mm 1.4 for my 50mm 1.8 and cash on my end

save up... keep your 50 1.4 and buy the 35 when you can. My 50 1.8 is collecting dust now that I have a 1.4 (that I rarely use, but am thankful that I have it in my bag for when I do need it). My .02

All that said, I just did a studio shoot with the kit-lens on my 60D for it's focal length (most shots were at 22mm or so & @f10ish) off camera blessed strobes, they make those ill performing zooms sing.
