Hating how far away my aluminum short throw shifter sits and not able to spend the $200 or more for the FLP Extended Shifter, I decided I'd try one of the screw on "shifter extenders".
It screwed on easily enough, put the knob 4" higher (closer to the steering wheel) and shifting still seemed to be fine, so I went out for a drive.
All I can say is.....

DON'T DO IT!

With the first hard shift to 3'rd, my knuckles hit my CD player, as the shifter bent forward where the extension met the original shift lever.
I figured I'd just take the extension off, when I got home and screw the knob back on my original shifter and call it a lesson learned.

NOPE!

Just 2 red lights later, shifting normally from 1'st to 2'nd, the extension and knob snapped off in my hands.
What makes it even worse, it snapped off the threads of my original shift lever, so I can't even put the knob back on it.

Ever tried to drive with an extra short shift lever that keeps cutting your hand?

Now, I'm riding around with a piece of galvanized pipe slid over my lever so I can reach it and not cut my hands when shifting.
YES, it looks janky as Hell, but it will work til I can get a new shifter.

dang man... my condolences. There arent many feeling as awful as modding just a little something like that only to have to shit on you two miles down the road. Get the good kit!

Thanks, man.
That's the problem, though.
Even the more expensive "kits" are just the same. A screw on extension.
And, the only "tall" shifters that I know of are the FLP one and it's $199.99 and allways on back order.

Yeah. It's just a cheap aluminum shifter and the extension is aluminum, too.
I still wouldn't trust the CP extension on an aluminum lever with any hard shifts either though.
I think I'm just gonna make a replica of the FLP shifter.

I'm not trying to be a douche, but what good is an extra-long shifter in everyday driving? I understand it in rally and such, where milliseconds count, but it seems counterproductive for a daily driver.

Especially if it breaks off in your hand.

x2 id much rather get a short shifter for ease of shifting.

I know a guy that can make you a tall shift knob... Won't help with the broken shifter part, but hey.

The shifter just sits so low in the EG. If I move my seat back to get away from the steering wheel, I have to lean forward to reach 1'st, 3'rd and
5'th.
I'm not really concerned with miliseconds when shifting, just comfort, and it really was comfortable with the extension.....for a minute.

I'm gonna go with a 'Teg dual bend shifter and an old school Hurst Pistol Grip this time.
The dual bend will set it back closer to me and the pistol grip should give me the extra height I want.
We'll see.
