I origionally posted this on Datsun1200.com

Not really sure if any body other than Altimacharlie and i can use this info but here you all go any how.

Ive been doing quite a bit of hacking to my 77 datsun b210 in the past year. I'm trying to get it ready for drifting although after i do one mod something else goes wrong and Ive never had it ready for the track, haha.

I'm writing this post to help any body else with a b210 or related chassis to make there experience less of a nightmare than it was for me. Recently I had an issue with charging and replaced the Alternator, battery and voltage regulator to no avail.

With lots of research and some inspiration from my friend Casey, I decided to go with an internally regulated alternator.

My unit came from a 1981 280zx (turbo or non turbo) It gives me 60amps instead of the stock 50 and is basically plug n play.

Supposedly the 510 guys do this pretty regularly.
deleting the voltage regulator is easy and the wiring(colors and function) to the reg is the same as the 510's the diagram is found here.

The 280zx Alt is somewhat larger than the stock b210 one so i had to bend the alt bracket upward slightly. Also the bottom mounting bolt holes are a little smaller than stock so you will have to drill those out before mounting. I will add pics some time this week and modify as i find more.

2 months of charging issues solved for me today by 30min of work. :)

I'll most likely do this if mine goes out. So far i've never had charging problems, but i don't run a stereo or anything.

This may come in handy on the truck. I don't like the voltage regulator where it sits on the side of the fender. I may give it try, thanks.

huh? You had to modify to fit? I bolted it right to my A15 with no problems a few months back.

Should be the same mounts as the A14. Surprised you had to modify to fit.

I was told on the datsun 1200 forum that the 310 alt bolts right in and is IR but i didnt see any info about that when i did my research.
Thats cool that yours bolted up. I think now i may have re-invented the wheel but i was feeling proud of my self right after i did it lol.
I thought the A15 had some minor differences from the A14 but im not sure, never even seen an A15 my self.
