This person was quite a douche when I was contacting him about a lens he was selling on craigslist. Anyone know this person?

If you could get the same thing not scratched for the same price why would you even be concerned with it?

I usually check out non-dealer for sale ads before I hit up the local business market. I do that because you never know what kind of situation an individual might be in, he could need 20.00 just to make up this month's rent payment. You never know. Whenever I sell stuff I usually am looking for money for some reason, so I try to help people out while also getting something I want.

kinda like how I like to support a small local business before I would get a similar product from a large corp.

oh hell ya. I actually found a better canon 50mm f/1.4 FD lens for sale closer to me for only 30.00 (usually sell for 70.00+). An the guy was super nice to me... needless to say I picked it up.

I thought it was rather odd how he was responding and the more he replied, the more I was turned off from buying his item.

Probably... It is craigslist. Prolly and old cam his parent's used or something he used a while back and just trying to make money off it. From what I can tell, usually photographers at least give more information of the lens in their ads. Even so... as much of an ass as he was, I was gonna buy it and pay for shipping, but he said no deal. total asshat. Its not like his ad said local pickup only.

It was stolen.

with that guys attitude and hesitation to take pics or even ship, I wouldn't be surprised if this statement was true.

sucks... dude probably didn't feel like it was worth his time to deal with it.

I have a d16z6 that is laying in my garage that is a parts motor. well it would start but it has been laying there for years with no oil cap or exhaust mani, and a is matted to a DX tranny... long story is I could get $100 for it but i don't even feel like taking the time to answer billions of questions to get someone to take it off my hands for that price. I get paid $75/hr for way less work. I have even offered it for free if someone will just pick it up when I have free time, but it always turns out that my free time is worth more to me than bothering to hover over someone while they are rummaging around in my garage when it is convenient for them to show up.

good job getting the FD 1.4 for $30... for that price, if I shot FD, i would have taken the gamble and bought lens shipped and not wasted anytime thinking about it.

yeah I understand that situation sometimes, but I'm not an ass about it like this guy was. He could have simply stated in a few txt that he preferred local pickup and that he guarantees it is working. I would have drove up there that instant. he was an ass and I found a better deal anyway. I'm loving this 50mm f1.4 on my Gh1. It gives the hacked video a way more cinematic feel with the flares it produces when wide open.

there is an old bible quote that is similar to a glass houses one... yet one is more modern than the other... all of the above get the job done. ;)
