trying to replace the battery and acc lights inside my car were on(like dash radio and all) and the moment i touched the cables to the terminals..there were SPARKS and one of the terminals LITERALLY MELTED...
now the car is not getting any power to anything after i got another battery put on..

all fuses in the fuse box look good..
what could it be? what did i short out...
thinking it could be the main relay.

any suggestions
car is 1992 honda prelude si.
thanks

Did you hook up the battery backwards?

sounds like you hooked it up backwards.

- is black, + is red...

sounds like you blew the main fuse. it will be in the fuse box under the hood. will be called main fuse, or main power fuse, and around 90a...

check the fuse box.. look at the fuses.. see which ones were damaged when you did a stupid thing.

this is not common knowledge?

main fuse and you dont have to hook the battery up backward to blow it

It really SOUNDS like you did it backwards.... When I worked at a car lot, one guy went and put the battery powered jumpstart on a car backwards.. The second he cranked it, both cables melted through their rubber sleeves and fused to the parts of the car it was touching as well as frying the jump-starter, existing battery, and main fuse in car.

To help you - The main relay should be behind the steering column. I'm terrible at voltage testing but I'm sure someone else can point you in the right direction there. G/l man, shouldn't be anything too serious!

[QUOTE=Cynical 1;39192856]sounds like you hooked it up backwards.

- is black, + is red...

never go by the color....always look at the terminals instead of go by wire diagrams

true - always refer to the wiring diagram.

however, for this particular car, the cables are indeed color coded.

did you check the fuse box by the driver kick plate? where you pop the hood. I havent been around my lude in so long I cant remember where the main fuse is, but check there.

if no fuses are blown, borrow someones main relay and try it before you buy one
