This will be slowly updated but I wanted to show everyone my new little project. My goal is to just clean it up and make it presentable.

Here she is - my 4th white car in a row.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HpSd9ko1K_g/TTqTrSaD4uI/AAAAAAAAAr8/YY4XdC5fUoc/s800/IMAG0023.jpg

Came with a rattle canned hardtop and the door speakers don't work. Seems pretty mechanically sound.

PLANS

Paint the rattled OEM roof painted either satin or gloss black. This will keep me in my budget unless someone can match the color for cheap. Reply or PM if you know a guy who knows a guy.

OKAY, I plan on trying the Raceland coilovers. I've researched extensively and found some good review and some not so good ones. My thinking is that I don't plan on tracking or anything so I want a good drop. If they suck, I'm only out $350. (+ whatever else might break when the epic fail happens :) )

15x8 0 offset 513s. I may be even considering 16's now. :D I've seen a couple I love

Racing beat header and some classy exhaust. Haven't figured it out yet.

For the FAR FAR future, I plan on buying another 1.8 to tear down and build to replace. But this will do for now.

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..........................

Installed audio.
Did a tune-up and brakes... some other miscellaneous things.

OOOKAY.

I ordered a Borla Exhaust and the Raceland's. I went with the XXR 513's but I went with 7 wides and a +15 offset. They should be on their way soon but it might be a minute before I get tires on them.
Exhaust gets here Monday and the Coils on Tues.

and... I'm out of money for a while. lol.

PICS SOON

Got the Borla exhaust and it looks really well made. I have a stud stuck in the Cat so it isn't on yet. I've been driving to work very obnoxiously ;)

Got the Racelands on and they ride pretty well for how low I have them set right now. I will be going about 1 to 3/2 inches higher when I get the wheels ( ON TUESDAY!!! ). I didn't have the time I thought I would so I didn't get to take the time to adjust them like I want them.
-------------------------

Got the wheels and tires on. Scrub pretty badly. I need to find the time to get it rolled by a pro.

------------------------------

Today I did some small things. I painted the rusty windshield wipers and replaced the door trim. Spent most of my time trying to roll ze fenders more.

The only updates i have to offer are...

Sidebolts installed for the hardtop.
Fenders are rolled with my rented Eastwood roller.
Got a great alignment
DDM Works Intake
Sourced A Header... will go on when... MAH NEW MOTOR GOES IN!!!! >more info down

And this is the engine I sourced.

This is the description given to me by the seller:

"viton valve seals, it has a some porting, the bowls have been deshrouded and slightly polished. Also there is zero casting flaws in this head which is somewhat rare to find.

the block has been slightly decked and shaved (same thing they do with spec miata motors) upgraded piston rings (they are a lil less snug than OEM to cut down on friction without compromising compresion) The rotating assembly has been fully balanced and has new bearings and new gaskets everywhere! the water pump and timing belt has 1k on it (i picked it up from metalman) and the oil pump gears have been checked and clearanced."

I'm going to pick up as soon as it's ready for me. :D

HOPEFULLLY it will be in by the next varsity meet so I can show off my weak shit. lolol

---------------------------------------------

Guy is back from Cali, So I hope to get that motor soon. If not, I have sourced a 00' motor with 88k for a bit less. It's more work but a better motor.

So, I got a tan soft top, frame, rain rail, rear window storage protector, and all install hardware for $40.

Installed the header, deleted the Cat. Lowered her a lil more.

Tons of other minor things that I can't remember. Here are a couple cell pics.

^^prepping the hardtop for a little spray. I wanna get the whole thing painted at once. But, I'd rather get the motor in first. We'll see what my budget allows. :(

Sorry for the terrible quality.

___________________________________

Well, the guy decided to keep his BP... no worries. BP-4W swap already in the works. :D

I don't have huge plans for it when I get it. :/ Building motors costs BIG dinero. Imma throw on some adj fidanza cam gears and do the timing belt/water pump. Other than that, a nice clutch and a light flywheel are my only realistic desires. Probably no flywheel though.

After the swap is done. Imma paint the car.

What I really want to do is take my time, prep the body, and do the jambs myself. Then take it somewhere (probably sprayglo or kizkustoms ) and have them do a base - clear. The plan is WHITE with absolutely no tints in it at ALL. I want people to look at it on a sunny day and be blinded. lolol

I've been considering the RB bumper. It's different. I like it sometimes, and others I don't.

It looks super sexy with the splitter.

http://www.trackdogracing.com/website/product_photos/rb_splitter.jpg

I will not be getting side skirts though. I don't like em'.

From there on, I really want a MS and to attempt to piece together some boost pieces. Either Turbo or SC'd. (that's farfetched for a college kid whose parents have no jobs).

and smaller tires...

We'll see.

EDIT: Oh yeah... my lolol shift knob. :D

I would love to get some 14" 4x100 panasports but I don't where to get them. Plus $$$$$.

I think the 513s will make me happy though.

When is your car going to paint? I'm excited to see. :-)

No. I wanted another bb2 but Georgia was all out of nice ones.

why did u let it go

Because it was an automatic. It sucked to see it drive away though. I loved that car. It was much nicer than the Mazder but not as much fun. I got a little sideways today in town by accident. :goodjob: I can't wait to get the x8's and get it a bit more planted.

Being this is a Miata, I would think you'd find PS wheels for not so much. But if you like it......................you know the routine, lolol.

Don't get me wrong. I loved my Prelude more than I can explain.

But, I can't afford insurance and maintenance on 2 cars while I go to college. I wanted another 4th gen Lude and I searched for weeks. I looked at some but they were all in terrible shape and priced wayyyyy too high. I WILL have another Prelude. I love them. A lot.

A hard top isn't a hood and the roof is now rattlecanned a different color white than the body with tons of runs..

and I don't really care if I catch hell. :)

I'm also considering painting the windshield frame black to go with the top. Idk yet. Hmmm.... maybe gunmetal to match the wheels.

One day people will be more creative than Ricelands, Sportmaxx and a lip....one day. If you want to do something for the top that'll actually look good...maybe you should trying getting some vinyl and wrapping it...it least it won't like a brokeass, splotchy spraybomb job. Hell, you could go all out and get the carbon neffy wrap stuff and give it a carbon look. You're already starting off with a better model Miata than 80% of the trend by having a 1.8L car and I see it has power mirrors meaning you probably have a Torsen LSD and you have power windows, extra chassis bracing and the bigger brakes.

I'm with you. But I've only had it a little over a week now. More interesting and creative stuff will come.

And the Racelands ride great so far. :-)

I know they're generic and played out but I like the xxrs and they won't stop the car from getting better.

I appreciate the ideas though, good constructive criticism.

I am going to call miata and give them my vin so they can tell me if I have the torsen or not. It seems like the easiest way to be sure.

Having the car a week is the perfect excuse not to rush the mods. I'm sure the Ricelands ride "nice", it's because it's about the same as stock but with height adjustability. If you want to go lower, you'll need some NB tophats.....but handling will go to shit with all that rear camber.

No worries about going lower. I'm going to be pushing it up some. Just haven't had the time the past couple days. I'm already up 6 threads in the front and rear. The front is about where I want it. The back is about an 1/8th of an inch lower. I'll probably pull it up a little more than a half inch. Not enough to look like it has a rake, but I don't want the ass to sag like it does now.

And I will hopefully minimize the camber before I get an alignment.

Remember to leave 1/2" of rake between the front and rear if you're measuring height from hub center to fender. It's designed into the car. Having equal ride height will make the car look like its sagging in the rear. as you've found out. IIRC I think I'm 11.25"F and 11.75"R hub to fender.

I'd rock the shit out of these on a NA....

Also, It looks like I'm doing a BP-4W Swap. So, we'll be rockin' the VICS together, man. haha. I'm picking up a motor from someone else's totalled 2000. The other fella with the BP backed out on his motor and has decided to finish his build.

So, I'm prepping for the swap. It seems pretty easy. Plus, the motor I'm getting is in great condition. :) Female owned 88k. $750 is the price. Not bad imo.

Pardon the maaaad tyte t!lt...but it was cool back in 2003 when this was taken.

SO. I haven't updated this thread in a while because I've been busy with a new job and stuff... but here we go.

I picked up a BP4W from a 99 10AE with a 6 speed (woooohooooo).

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UzP5vBQnNAA/TeK9jT3W7RI/AAAAAAAABag/9UGFC6oC6bc/219738_2099427008128_1318985973_32464502_2026984_o .jpg

I picked up an old Grant 500 steering wheel that a friend's father has had since the mid 70's and reupholstered my door panels until I can save up to get some others.

So, I have not updated in a long time. Heeerre goes. (As always, sorry for the bad phone pics.

The first thing that comes to mind is this.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-7nMxRoSGL8w/Tf6qDVvxbsI/AAAAAAAABew/IfDYHQDHwmw/s640/IMG_20110619_215506.jpg

Most of the damage was on the trunk with 3 other dents on the quarter panels. That led to this:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pF_bI3GH2TE/ThGvXYGsHKI/AAAAAAAABhE/0KYK7OGMybs/s640/259512_2189873989246_1318985973_32578160_4848911_o .jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LvbtH2nq-Gc/TdzDgR19x9I/AAAAAAAABaI/WokNlvbG3fA/s800/IMAG0098.jpg

And this weekend I will be installing:

The BP4W/6 Speed I bought a while back! This is an old pic, but I don't have any new ones. :(

Sorry I don't have any pics of the entire car. I don't have a real camera and my girlfriend is being selfish with hers lately.

But, I will try to get an actual pic of it after the swap and all. Maybe my GV lip will come in soon and I can pop some pics of it installed.

PS:

Oh yeah... while prepping the trunk for primer I found some bondo... HAGGGGGGGGGGGGGAGAGAHAHAGHGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ..

Therefore:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OWNNY_-qads/ThGwQxX8O5I/AAAAAAAABhY/WGuq426gqPk/s800/IMAG0082.jpg

Since the appearance of my car has gone down hill recently I've been looking for some new inspiration. And this is it.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/259997_2255528870577_1318985973_32616268_2076951_n .jpg

The car is mis-matched and pieced together but it looks like it has a soul. The beauty of it is in its story (and those Equips). It shouldn't look as good as it does, but it's beautiful to me. That's just why it's a little inspiration to me and my piece.

It was only in 3 spots, the reason I had to strip it was because they didn't use enough hardener. The filler was still soft.

The gray is just the primer. You can see some of the bondo in the pic. Its white.

Guy's named Ben, not who the Stones were referring to in that chune they sung, turns out. (whoooowhooo)

This one is pretty leaky, even as aftermarket tops go. But the latches on the front were crap and the rear plates have yet to be drilled. There are a couple spots where the lexan window leaks and the window seals are new... but for a soft-top. However, I think I can get the leaky cauldron sealed to match how pretty it looks. I've got new latches and getting the rear secure should be easy.

I'm just super paranoid about sun damage now.

Well, the BP/6spd is a good start to motivate you to go the extra distance. I see stuff all the time that doesn't fit the bandwagon, but since it doesn't, it gets looked over. There are a lot of wheel options out there now that are nice...Rota K7 or Grid-V, Konig Roller, TRM C3M, 6UL to name a few that are low-budget. I know it's hard to get off the beaten path and that it's a fine line between doing it right and being called rice...but a good place to look for ideas are track/time attack cars and the "carview/carlife" thread on ClubRoadster.

As for your hardtop, you might want to look into the 1-piece hardtop seals for the windows and ditch the softop window seals.

An example of a NA that is done right...coupeloop's car on CR...

It's funny that you mention the Grid Vs. I have been trying to source a set. The Xxrs have gotta go. Not because they're common or cheap, ( I don't even know anyone with a set) but because there is so much to be gained by replacing them. But, they will stay for a little while at least.

Missing the inlet and outlet (on the blower, not sure what you call them... These things... http://www.miatamania.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=77561 and http://www.miatamania.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=77546) pieces and maybe a couple other things... Uhhh... I have parts of an MP45 kit. Blower, crossover tube (with Gm sensor), some brackets and an intake no electronics. I bought them off of Dr. Drew on mx5atl, supposedly the blower only has 18,000 which OGF confirmed since Dr. Drew bought it from him.

Never put it on so I'm not sure. I've decided to stay NA.

I'll give you a good price for it if you're interested in piecing it back together, if not... Well then fuck you. LOL J/K.

Wah!? I did not see this at all. I just told Jack, mx5atlanta founder (or co-founder... something), that I was gonna be picking up most of a turbo kit from him this week. PM'd good sir.

In other nooz to keep us on topic:

I just bought a Prothane bushing kit for the car. Looking for an extra set of control arms to putem in. :D
http://store.autosportsupplies.com/merchant2/graphics/00000001/AE86Bushing.jpg

And got an amazing deal on some turbo stuff. Copied and pasted from FS ad. Will pick up Thursday!

Garrett T25 Silvia turbo - freshly rebuilt and cleaned - zero play, brand new
braided stainless oil/feed lines
R2D2 blow off valve
CXracing intercooler kit with pretty every pipe in the world
38mm external wastegate
pierburg inline auxiliary fuel pump
K&N air filter
autometer gauges boost/EGT/AFR
AEM Uego O2 sensor + gauge
turbo blanket
lower radiator flex hose
throttle body with variable tps
rx7 550cc red top freshly cleaned injectors

An idea of the parts:
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd144/AtlantaImpreza/ee9480b1.jpg

Everything but a tapped oil pan (I have an extra), Manifold, downpipe, and a MSPNP. The kit is for a 1.6 so imma have to do some voodoo to make it all fit together.

Future plans/goals.
Have the boost and bushings in by Spring
Follow that with better coilovers and some good rubber. Probably up the ride height to eliminate spring preload.
Aesthetically I want a nice new coat of white: I won't expand into all the goodies I want. It's just sad... and it spills over into a 'dreams' category. NOT PLANS ;)

Yeah, that's not going to happen. You need a 1.8L manifold.

iamdallas
10-03-2011, 01:08 PM
Yeah... That's why I'm buying everything but the manifold and downpipe. :D

I was saying that I'm going to have to find a manifold similar to the 1.6 and have a downpipe made to work with the 1.8 exhaust and the external wastegate.

http://www.racingbeat.com/Miata-1990-2005/Suspension/54112.html

The Prothane kit is supposed be to a bit more durable and harder than the Energy Suspension kit. It's also a little cheaper. The reason I didn't go with the ES is because I don't want to have to be replacing bushings more often. I've seen a few people have to go through more than 2 sets. It's a bitch job and I don't want to do it too often.

Well, I'm actually getting Echo's SC kit. It's funny how quickly plans can change. The M45 JRSC is what I was originally looking for. My plans elevated from there up to an M62... then the T25 Kit above. I decided for simplicity I would go with the M45. Plus, I got a good deal.

With it, I am planning on going TDR intercooled with some 550cc ev14 injectors and a 9lb pulley. I want an MS, but we'll see how it goes. I'm a little scared of it. Everything is subject to change as well. I guess I go where the good deals are. We po college kids. :D :D

yeah I know how plans can change quickly, been there done that plenty of times. still, great progress though.

amen to that.

oh, and don't be scared of MS. it's not all that bad at all. my buddy is running it on his turbo NB running 20lbs and water/meth etc. It's a great tool to have.

This is the thought process.

"Well, I bent the inner tie rod. I'm gonna have to pay for an alignment after I fix it. Don't wanna ruin the other new set of Star Specs I get. And something was fucked with my alignment last time. They couldn't get it right. Probably the Alignment bolts going.

Might as well get some OEM bolts while I'm under there... might as well get some new OEM R Package Tie Rod Ends too... Might as well do my bushings... might as well paint and restore my Control Arms... Might as well install those I.L. Motormounts I got from RSpeed (aka Heaven)... might as well install that 949 Clutch line I haven't done yet. ...Might as well get a new set of Star Specs since 2 are ruined"

I hurt. Mind you all, I have a dirt and gravel driveway. Those pics from the swap were at a friend's house. I was working at night, in the rain 24/7. It's my only car, lol.

NO PICS AT ALL. But, I got it done with $0 in the Bank and a couple maxed Credit Cards. I was so broke that I had to order the tires in pairs from different accounts... not as a set.

But I know you fellas love pics.

Then.

I went to Rod Run in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. I got Rearended by a Redneck in a Cummins Diesel.

It's cool, because it paid for half of this. :D

But first, lets get some reference photos. :)

You can't see much of the damage caused by the rear-ending in the pic. The trunk was already that color.

Last pic of the car before paint.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gD6414Q8I_I/T8R8Bm5sKEI/AAAAAAAADIA/OwopBRdvHeY/s800/IMAG0016.jpg

Then came the body work. There were lots of little dings to fill. Most of what is here was caused by the accident though. The truck was so jacked up that it was all the way up in my interior. Lucky I had the top off or it would have ruined my hard top. It basically wrapped around the car and made all sorts of damage.

Although, it was strange. The only thing that I haven't done to the car with my own bare hands. I guess some things are better left in the hands of professionals.

So, I can't decide which front lip to go with. The R Package lip won't match Feed Skirts, that I plan on getting. Unless I go with a splitter under. I've been considering that for a lonnng time.

The Garage Vary that I already have is a bit played out for a number of reasons. I'm considering trying an Autokonexion, and the Trap just looks awkward most of the time to me. I love the idea, but not so much the execution.

Obviously, I'm partial to the rear of my car and the way it looks right now.

So, I have had the problem of my 2 wideband readings being off. Since I used Crimp connectors when I installed, I when through and soldered/heat shrunk all of the connections.

So, I'm pretty bad about procrastinating and making one huge post about what I've been doing.

Well, I sold the hardtop for a few different reasons. Ultimately, it was for suspension but some things happened and I didn't get to do that.

Moving on, I've been wanting to rebuild my shifter from the beginning. I put it off for ages because of the price of replacement OEM parts. Recently I sat in zoomx5's car and felt his extended Miata Roadsters short shifter... And I haaaad to have one. My bushings were destroyed and all of my boots were ripped in half at least.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3039-53e0.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3060-357a.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-30be-14c4.jpg

Nastiness.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-30ea-5f24.jpg

My bushing was stuck inside in about 4000 peices.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3107-5ad1.jpg

After I got the MR shifter in, I came across an awesome deal on some Revlimiter Gauges. They came with a cluster and everything, which I did not use. They're the Revolver style, and I love them.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-31c5-82cf.jpg

They don't look purple, IDK why the pics always turn out that way. They're so awesomely classic looking. I think if Clint Eastwood were to choose a set of manly badass gauge faces, these would be them.

Then, I got backed into. TWICE... In a week. :(

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3274-bfe1.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3296-0c92.jpg

I don't really have any good pics of the damage on the back bumper. Mostly it just spider cracked all over. A few large chips came off... This person must have hit me while I was at work, and didn't leave any information. So, I got to pay my deductable on that one.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3326-9f4d.jpg

Did my yearly service on the Transmission and Diff with this stuff. Best GL4 I can find.

Then, my supercharger started knocking. I have a video I can post when I'm on a computer, but it made me saaaaaaaaad... I had just bought an over pulley, a nost pulley, and a Jackson Racing header for the setup. My goal was to get the most hp recorded form an m45 setup, haha. That didn't happen.

I sold the setup for cheap. I decided that I would rather go turbo, as it would suit my long term goals for the car better.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184baa04-3418-b2e9.jpg

Sad engine bay. This was right before my coilpacks died. Easy fix.

I thought you guys might be interested in this. This is how I do anything that I need to do with my lip. Any bank and step down will do, I've done it in multiple different locations. Just park, lay down, and apply/remove.

Anywho, I won an OEM r-lip on ebay. Here she is all repaired and such. Much more betterer.

It's a BEGI s4 kit, and I'm going to be using a bov. I'm about to get the flange welded on for the Synchronic Synapse. This BOV feels amazing in your hand. You can just sense the quality. It's AWESOME.

I need injectors and a clutch. Then the turbo will go in.

I feel like I'm forgetting something... Hmmmm.

Taking my day off to work on some parts. I couldn't find anything else to do so here it is.

I had a friend who welded on my bov fitting for free. Its a little sloppy but it works.

Then a little paint.

Got both of those done. I am not at all satisfied with the threadage of the tap. It seems too loose on the fitting. Does anyone have suggestions on a welder that can do the cast and anodized aluminum?

My best shot is the local tech school I guess.

So, this week I took Thurs-Today off. The turbo stuff is in, but I've got a massive oil leak coming from the oil supply fitting on the turbo. It ran great for the 30 seconds that it ran, started up first time and everything.

I pulled the motor and installed:
BEGi coolant reroute with the Escalade radiatior hose that wraps around to the back of the motor.
Cam Seals
Front Seal
New Oil Pan tapped for oil return. New front and rear seals. The bearing support plate bracket for the oil pickup tube was broken. Luckily I had another to swap in.
Rear Main Seal
Flyin' Miata Stage One Clutch, pilot bushing, and throw-out bearing. I bought an output seal to put in but my seal puller wouldn't fit in to get it out. It wasn't leaking so I brushed it off.
I cleaned up all the wiring. Every single connection in the engine bay I soldered, heat shrinked, and wrapped into hidden harnesses. I also made a separate VICS controller harness that hasn't been put in yet, but it'll go in soon enough.
Stage 8 locking hardware on the turbo
Gates serpentine belt
Pulled the AC condenser and a delete tube has been ordered from Rosenthal.

I also cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned. You can't tell but I painted the block back black. I toyed with painting it Ford Blue but I was already pushing it for time. Black would be easiest to make look clean.

Well, I overlooked some parts that I needed when I was getting everything ready to go in. Specifically the AN inlet fitting for the stainless steel oil supply line to the turbo, and I overlooked the short piece of intercooler piping from the turbo. I mistakenly assumed that I had it. AND, after I talked to BEGi and had one custom made, we realized that the turbo has been clocked. Therefore the piece they made for their kit did not fit. And I ended up with an overpriced hunk of useless scrap in my hand. However, I was able to make it work in the end, I just spent more money and time than necessary.

If you can see that, it's a quick little pull that I did to show the results. With 0 tuning. Running on the tune with the m45 on stock injectors. I now have 550cc's, so it bogs a little down low, but other than that AFRs aren't ridiculously rich. As soon as I get some time I will spend some quality drive time road tuning. Then on to 11lbs!!!

I never did a post about finding my center caps... so here it is.

These things are beautiful. The day that I bought the Wats I knew I wanted these centers. That only problem was the Watanabe no longer manufacture silver center caps. Either way, there are no U.S. retailers to buy them from. So after months of checking every single weekend online and only finding the black ones - which in no way go with my wheels or car -

http://image.superstreetonline.com/f/techarticles/sstp_1005_parts_guide_retro_rides/32761464++w791/sstp_1005_52_o+parts_guide_retro_rides+center_cap. jpg

I came across a single set of 62mm (the size I needed for 4x100 wheels) on REV9 Autosport -- Roadster Love! (http://rev9autosport.com/). In no way am I affiliated at all, but I just wanted to thank them because they MAKE my car for me. It's the little things that count. :D

Well, it looks like it's time for my procrastination to take a rest!

We last left my car like this:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rB-_beRl-oU/UPTc9_L4g3I/AAAAAAAAIDo/np_uMLhuCxs/s1364/IMG_20130114_142832.jpg

Soon after I bought some Fortune Auto 500 Series coilovers at a good price and raised my car up to 12.5 in the Front and 13.0 in the Rear. I decided that I wanted to keep the suspension geometry as close to stock as possible so that the car would handle properly. G'bye lowness.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kyqS2i9kuuY/USptJ_nY4KI/AAAAAAAAJ40/wRW7WYP7vLE/s1021/20130224_143356.jpg

Along with the 500s came 205/50 15s to replace the 195/50s that were on the car previously. I'd rather have some 225/45s but the car will not accept those tires at this height with these wheels... and the wheels aren't going so 205s it is! I've considered buying an extra set of higher offset 15x9 wheels to wrap in a wider tire but it seems like a lot of expense for a car that has never seen a track day (yet) and is a daily driver. I am not a big fan of the Neogens, but they are much better in the rain than the old z1s. It is a better daily tire, and the price break doesn't hurt either.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-87T1e3rihKg/UTOw7L-U7vI/AAAAAAAAKEQ/O4nKeIf8-1U/s1021/20130303_152043.jpg

After that was all settled I spent quite a while tuning the car and struggling with my IAT. I have finally sourced the problem and plan to have it fixed FOR GOOD this week. The connection of the pigtail isn't very good to the prongs in the sensor. I have been determined to make the DIY pigtail work, but the connection keeps breaking down causing a super annoying fuel cut at high RPMS. I'll be ordering the GM pigtail tomorrow morning.

For a few months I had been trying to decide whether or not a blue top was a good idea. I sold the Honda, so the Miata was my daily again and the top wasn't perfect. It was mostly waterproof, mostly being the keyword. Although only a drop or two would get in once in a while, I decided to replace it with a cheap top from RSPEED... Problem was choosing the color. Black was boring, NA tan is basically orange (and I wasn't going for that again), NB tan seemed like the obvious choice, but I couldn't get over imagining what blue would look like! So, I pulled the trigger and did it.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0_N6zxn0GFA/UTjjqUX2k8I/AAAAAAAAKGc/QyvjADE_RzI/s1021/20130307_135850.jpg

Here it is test fitted over the tan top right after I bought it.

Installation was a cinch and only took be about 6 hours lunch and breaks included. There was so much information online that it all just got confusing and jumbled together in muh weak brainz. So, I decided to carefully take the tan top off the blue frame, then just reassemble like I took it off. It worked great!

Here she is and her ugly sister. I only owned this car for three weeks, and only drove it twice. Home, and for a test drive after I fixed it. I wish I kept it, but a mutual friend made an offer on it that I couldn't refuse.

Annnnnnd... these are pics from yesterday. They only thing I've done is put on a TDR Radical Air splitter. I hope to follow in this vein now and make the car much more agressive looking.

Thank you!

Over the past couple days I decided to switch back to my old unmodified valve cover. I powdercoated it wrinkle red and taped and shaved the letters.

Sorry for the crappy night time photos.

Then tonight I finally decided to modify my BEGi brake line heat shield to work without their coolant reroute. I basically cut a pasage to allow the stock heatercore line to go above the down pipe. Not optimal, but my brake lines were baking and needed something. I am satisfied. I also powdercoated my wiper arms and coilpack bracket!

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/23/y9a6ubaq.jpg

Yesterday I installed:

Polyurethane exhaust hangers
Rotors
Carbotech 1521 Pads
SS brake lines
Brake hardware
And new Motul 500 fluid
New pigtail for my IAT sensor.

Sadly it took me longer to install 2 of the exhaust hangers than it did for everything else combined! Those 949racing hangers are stupid rigid!

Sorry, I didn't take any pics because I was in such a rush to finish. Afterwards I went to look at a 65 Bug as a new project, it was a rust... eh, I mean bust.

When I have more time I will powdercoat my calipers and brakets a nice dark gunmetal or wrinkle black. But no this time!

I followed this procedure I found online.

"After installing new pads make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 35 mph with moderate pressure. Make an additional two to three hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph. Do not allow the vehicle to come to a complete stop. When completed with this process, park the vehicle and allow the brakes to cool completely before driving on them again. Do not engage the parking brake until after this cooling process is compete."

Eh.. that's the complicated way lol. I usually find a nice empty, straight road, and do a good long torque-brake... i.e. applying brake and lots of throttle but not accelerating. I'll do that a couple of times then get the car up to a good speed (60+) and roll hard on the brakes feeling for them to be up to operating temp (you know when you get there if you know your car well). Then I'll drive around and let the brakes cool back down. All you're really doing is transferring a layer of the pad material into the rotor's surface, which requires getting them up to operating temperature.

Last we met I was preparing for my first track day at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, GA.

A day or two before the event, I cleaned up the car and had it all prepped!

Although it was wet for the majority of the day it was an amazing experience. I learned a TON about driving and had an absolute BLAST!

Thanks to theothersawyer for the photo!

Unfortunately, I didn't remove my centercaps for the track day, and that was fine until the drive home. The heat generated by the front brakes distorted the plastic tabs that hold them in. I didn't even realize it was gone until I got home. Later the SAME night, I managed to hit some debris in the road and destroyed my brand new TDR Radical Splitter. Here are a couple shots to commemorate how amazing they were!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-KTTu81gLkIs/UckbLOYWx7I/AAAAAAAAMwE/E_8mqGwWW18/w1617-h1078-no/April+13+2013+060.JPG

Luckily, TDR was nice enough to offer me a replacement at a reduced price as they were sympathetic to my sob story, haha. (this just recently transpired, so I haven't gotten the replacement splitter yet) However, for the Watanabe center caps, there was no hope. Rod at Garage Tetsuya informed me that Watanabe hadn't produced silver center caps in over 10 years. So, if I wanted to find some I'd have to get lucky again. At this point my love for the Wats started to want and my desire for something else grew. But, more on that later.

So, I decided that I wanted to ATTEMPT to get some direct air flow into my intake by making an air-box and using a vented headlight lid. Now, I don't know if it will work since air is a funky thing, but I'm going to give it a shot. So far I'd purchased a white carbon fiber lid from Carbon Miata.

Here, you can see the lack of splitter and centers as well.

My car spent quite a while in this mode, I ran out of inspiration for a while since I lost the Wat centers. I don't know what it was, but I just didn't like them as much. The car didn't have the same appeal. I know it sounds crazy to put that much weight into it, but it's true! I even posted it for sale for a short while until I realized what I was missing.

The car got a timing belt and water pump service at some point in here >>> but nothing new!

I began to worry about the health of my engine. I had a slight knock occasionally at startup and I couldn't diagnose it. I had some pretty seriously low oil pressure at hot idle (8-12psi at 900rpm), and I worried that I was cooking my oil. So, as a temporary solution, I stuck an adapter onto an oil-temp gauge and stuck it into my drain plug. :D

Oil temps were fine. Over the next few weeks though, I kept an eye on my engine and (upon a friend's suggestion) discovered some small metal flakes in my oil. Time for a new motor!

This BP4W still made good power and performed well, but it was a ticking time bomb at this point - and threatening the life of my turbo. It had about 195-205k miles on it, so I think it did its duty well!

Dirty. :D

I sold the Wats :( Some lucky gentleman in California is the new owner.

My roomate very nicely color-matched my headlight lid for me (for free!). I broke my dremel, so the airbox is still incomplete.

Then - this nonsense.

Out with the old

...and in with the new.

35k BPZ3 block and BP4W Head. All OEM, just like I like em'. I know, I know, the 10:1 compression is not optimal for peak power in boost, but the throttle response is pretty epic. I expect to make 260 on a dynojet at 12psi, though. Plus, this was a good deal from a local forum member.

The engine is back in, and it's all buttoned up. I just haven't had any time for pictures. While the engine was out I properly tapped the pan to permanently install the Oil temp gauge. And I can continue to use my awesome magnetic drain plug from FM.

More pictures soon! Hopefully I won't neglect it again. :/ (I know I will. )

Which HG did you go with on the hybrid engine?

5 weeks on Daisies with awful tires. This is becoming unbearable.

In the meantime I cleaned up the bay a little.

That is all for now. I'm going to go enjoy it for the fall. I haven't had real tires in a quarter of a year!

As always, sorry for the crappy cell pics.

I'm not sure if I like them better with or without. But, luckily it's just a sticker, so I can peel it off later if I decide I don't like it.
