I dont know if it was just me or not, and a couple folks already told me that it shouldnt but here's the deal. So in a couple weeks Im picking up my friends 300ZX. Im practically giving my current daily driver (99 Taurus) to my girlfriend she doesnt have a car. Ive offered to give him full out cash for the car right now, but he needs the car until December 8th, which is when the fall semester is over, and he quits his job, since he's moving to Boise. Just yesterday I talked to him and he mentions that hes taking the car (that im purchasing) to Orlando and back. I mean the car has enough mileage as is, let alone more from driving to Orlando and back. Personally, if someone was buying a car of mine, I probably wouldnt be taking it on a road trip like that I guess. Do I have valid reason to really get a little irked by the whole situation? I feel in a way im probably being a jerk about it, but I did kinda jokingly say, dont bring it back wrecked lol.

Yes you do.
His sense of urgency to sell the car is inconsistent will your willingness to buy.
Trip to FL = $400 of the price of the Z :goodjob:

^^^ agree with the nah mean general.... i would never take a car i'm selling to someone (namely who has cash in hand) and take it on a road trip, its almost stupid business on his part...b/c he should realize that the miles are going to keep adding up, there could be another rock chip in it, something could go wrong....not saying it will but i'm just saying that he isn't being smart...

Well I know hes selling me the car, I trust him since hes been my friend for a long time and all. Plus hes giving me a cut rate deal on it too already.

Yeah, those are my thoughts exactly, but Im not really sure 100 percent of his situation with not having any other means of transportation I guess. Plus hes going to see family.

Agreed. Is the z32 twin turbo? I'm guessing probably not.

i can completely understand that but the fact still stand if i knew about this prior to the deal i would have told you, i would have been like hey, after i make this trip to florida i'll sell it to you, i just have to have the car for that long. (but i also would have made sure the price was docked or at least talked about with you).

wel if he's giving you "cut rate" and he's going to see family it sounds like you understand his situation.
Well, given the circumstance, I guess the answer of your question should be (Yes, but you can't do shit about it, so deal with it)

Its a Z31 NA 5SPD. Kinda not so great, I know, but I do plan a swap.
But like I said hes already giving me a good deal. It has 124k miles, very clean car, no defects, and hes selling it to me for 1000 even.

Yeah, I honestly wouldnt have found out unless I asked him what he was doing over thanksgiving lol Hes not really into cars all too much, unlike myself, and a car basically is a car to him. But for someone like myself, any car I take on a road trip, I spend days and days on making sure its ready for the trip. He has told me about him needing to have the car until that certain date, and I have offered to pay him the money ahead of time.

If he trusts it making it to Florida thats a good sign. I was under the impression z32. Don't you already have a z31 or are you collecting these now?

thats cool, as long as the agreedment was set and you knew about it and have already made arrangements thats good. I agree with the road trip thing, i always try to make sure everything is in perfect order (mainly tires had way too many blow outs) best of luck with the sale.

I guess the general consensus in that thread was :
-RB20 (cheap but no reliable)
-SR20 (what you reccommend?)
-VG30 (junky motor with not a lot of aftermarket)
In all honesty , im wanting an overall quick street car. I dont really want to get serious into drag racing, since Im sure reliability issues come into play with that, and it being my daily Id rather not. Do you know the approximate costs of full motor/tranny setup for each of those and how much it would cost to install and tune? Rough estimates are fine, im not looking for definites really. Does anyone on here really have the know how to do the swap privately that I can trust?

That changes everything. heres how I look at it. any car that will run period, regarless of mileage is worth $1000. Not much to complain about to me.
