ok so im on my 3rd starter or 2nd reman starter
The solenoid got stuck on the original one and i thought it was time to replace it

bought a reman...a few months later the solenoid BROKE OFF on its own...the guys @ advanced were shocked @ how it broke on its own

so i get a 2nd reman starter

problem with this one is it also gets stuck on and the solenoid drive shaft looking thing gets stuck on and makes this horrible screeching sound till it somehow releases it self

do u think its just the reman starters(cheap) or some other issue?

so...i ended up getting a starter from big mac....im sure it came off a jdm h22...so im saying it was fully functional and with "low-mileage" lower than my preludes atleast...thanks again K!

anyways... the solenoid snapped off this one too...idk why this keeps happening...
it ran for about 4 or 5 months...and then it starting making those whirring noises...checked it...damn solenoid broke clean off...AGAIN...

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??
is my flywheel to blame?? its stock..
someone explain plzzz

sounds like it may be in a bind, or not bolted all the way down , but I am unsure w/o looking

Whats good man. Hey, you saying the starter is falling off from the transmission (like not bolted on)? is it bolted down all the way properly? Make sure the threads aren't striped and its in correctly. Had this problem a while back, and had to retap the threads on the transmission and put a bigger bolt to hold the starter. Keep us updated

ok..update?

so this is what was going on:
http://i52.tinypic.com/313t7yu.jpg

the area pictured in red is the solenoid that kept breaking from the entire piece.
happened 2x
it had nothing to do with the actual starter being bolted on to the transmission.
one of my friends proposed that it may be due to extreme vibration...i dont think so
the starter was torqued down to a good measure.

so far i have not come across anyone else with the same issue

having absolutely no way to drive to anyone selling a starter, i drove this dying family ford windsta to Givens junkyard which is less than 2 miles from my house.

i had to pay $80 for this starter that looks very mysterious
first of all it looks nothing like any h22/h23 starter or f22 starter ive ever seen.
its a giant hunk of metal. Both battery connections are located on different sides of the starter.
and for some reason it looks like it wont ever break like the previous ones due to its design.
looks sturdy.

upon setting my eyes on it for the first time, i was sure they had given me the wrong kind.
saying little..
i went home, held it on..still about 60% sure they had given me the wrong one..the starter lined up..

i quickly bolted up and connected everything. different.
my entire crank sound is different.
sounds more like a SUV

ill post pics of this mysterious starter later

Heres the broken starter. This is where it always kept breaking.
You can see me holding the solenoid...
that piece on top comes from within.

Imholding the camera from the top of the new starter.
I have no idea what kind it is.
Looks absolutely nothing like the four previous ones..or any other h/f starter ive ever seen.

If the new one is working, then just leave it. Also, what granny, engine combo in in your lude? And which motors are you getting the starters for? But personally, it sounds to me like it is getting in a bind. I would check out your flywheel. And its possible that you might have to shim the starter. I had to shim my wifes starter. It was a f series tranny and starter on a jdm h22. Hope this helps

well...the cars original starter failed not long after i got it. it looked very old.(orig)
1)i bought the first reman starter from advanced. it broke just like the one pictured above
2)then i got my warranty blah blah..got another one...problem with this one though was that it would like get "stuck" with the flywheel so it would spin and make the horrible screeching sound till it eventually "unattach" itself and things would go back to normal...it would do this on cold starts..and one day it eventually just gave out...being about 3 months old..i think the reman starters are cheap as hell
3) bought one from BIG MAC...very cool dude..very cool price...ALWAYS BUY FROM HIM. it was off his jdm h22...it worked fine..but then it broke @ the solenoid...thinking about checking my flywheel...which is OEM 253K miles old.
4) bought this current from Givens junkyard..apparently according to them its a duralast for h23...
the solenoid on the current one looks entirely different..its like 2x the circum. of the previous ones..and its mounted 90* away.

i got 2.3 motor
going for that jdm h22 swap.

also check this out..motors bout to hit 253K in about 50 miles or less...
HAULS ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSS!!!!!!!!!!
torque on these motors is amazing!
