View Full Version : Some creativity & use of an OEM muffler:

Degreased, sanded, polished, polished, polished and polished the oem axleback for my sedan. The oem tip was also polished and then burnt to give it an pretty cool gold effect.

I am not one to spend a fortune on some exhaust system when I have a stock sohc engine. I just used some time, some creativity and ended up w/what I think is a decent looking device. I hope you all like as much as I.

Make sure you wipe it down with degreaser/wax remover and spray it good with high temp clear.

This isn't a new idea, but it doesn't make a difference as it's a very nice touch to a car such as yours. Props for taking the time to do it; looks great!

Something will be done later down the road.. it is fairly cold and I am willing to wait until spring to do anything else.

Powdercoat clear...thats about the only way to keep it that way. Or keep it rubbed down in wd40.

This muffler was on the car since 94. It was first off brown, covered in layers of road debris and grease. So it went from that to a polished muffler.. I dislike putting aftermarket exhaust on a stock car so I did this over buying something I do not need.

This is about what I started with: not mine.

I know this is nothing new, I've seen it done but just online. I just like polished metals and between 2 pal's and myself we had this thing dropped and ready to go back on in just a few hours. I do not feel like it was a waste of time.. we had fun even though it was freezing outside yesterday. I have no future plans of buying an exhaust so this was well worth the looks. Plus it's a family car.

I wouldn't take it to the next level like the guy on H-T. But that's pretty cool, just too much for me. B17a1db2 chime in on this process sir if you could.

Sand the muffler and end up at 400 - 600 grit scratches. Use Steel Buffing Compound, and a buff wheel on a machine. And you have a nicely polished metal item. That's the overall basic idea.

Nice! I did something similar when i had my old 4dr. I polished the tip and flat blacked the rest of the muffler. Just like yourself, i couldn't see wasting any money for an exhaust on a stock car.

I agree Completely.

I polished up my Stock Type-r Exhaust and it turned out pretty good.

Thats what I was just about to say. I really like what you did, just wish you had put a bigger tip on it to fill up the bumper.
