hey guys... im building a NPR pr3 piston 82mm gsr with rod bolts and head studs... valvetrain... buddy club spec 4 cams....

I already got all this stuff but I was wondering if you guys think it would handle a 100 wet shot from time to time... only when serious races are on the plater or money races... w.o having to worry? or what would be the biggest shot reliably.

100 shot with tuning.
my h22 with bolt ons made. 259whp and 230tq with a 65 shot

tuning is always good to have but when i used to run the spray before i knew a tuner id just retard the dizzy a couple degrees say 1.5-2 degrees per every 75 hp or so. keeps from cracking the ring lands if pistons are forged then retard 1-1.5 degree for every 75hp shot to keep the heat down in the combustion chamber. 100 shots not that big a deal without tuning just keep an eye on your plugs for any shiny specks and if you see this back timing down another .5 degree cause that would be excessive heating. never lost one yet and ive sprayed this old junkyard motor in a hulled out 92 hatch for years with a home made 2 stage one throttle activated zex 50 shot and a NX 75 shot or so on a button to hit when traction was available after 2nd gear so i think thats 125 shot after second gear all together! friends still running this combination with same 2 kits 4 years now netting 7:40's in the 1/8 mile here. and remember the higher you bottle pressure the harder the hit just dont go over 1100-1200 or your solenoids could start to stick open! just really an old war story i guess but good luck with her!

good to know.. thanks man I guess 100 shot is what I'm shooting for... my concern were the cast iron pistons... 100shot equals 100whp... am I correct?

dang nice... must be a beast... I think i've seen it in the for sale section... red eg?? if so, nice car.

No - you will not see 100whp with a 100 shot. You'll see 75 - 80 if you're lucky. Not only that you're looking at the wrong number. The number you wanna watch skyrocket on the dyno will the the TQ curve. Nitrous is a torque producer. What are you going to use for tuning? Also toss in a better fuel pump.

i say do it. i knew this girl that had a bone stock GSR! with just IHE, and a dry 75 shot and good tunning ran 12.8

i have a walbro 255 fuel pump and some dsm 450cc injectors ready... dang im disappointed... I was expecting 300whp with a 100shot. Since I'm using a performex x IM... 68mm throttle body... aem v2 cai... rmf narrow... ported head
For tuning either crome or Hondata... Not sure depends on how deep my pocket is at the time.

you can make 300whp just depending on tune and how healthy the motor is
you have nice set up the performance x will allowed u to rev also

look into some cams just for that purpose like zex or so on they help with overlap and so on so you can squeeze a little more spray in there! also the pistons are made from cast aluminum but as i said timing as with any great power adder is key! still beating a junk ls with a gsr head and stock cams and still rolling after 4 or so years as stated above. just get a timing light and learn how to use it to dial in your shot. you wont see a 100 at the wheels because of drivetrain losses and having to reduce timing for piston ring land reliability! good luck!

there's no safe way to run n20 without tuning. you have to be serious about it.

buy a knockbox and tune it.
nitrous loves high comp so you should be good.

while tuning the a/f is important, the only thing that actually destroys engines is predotonation and knocking.
IF you buy a knock box you will be able to monitor the engine during tuning and know exactly how far you would like to advance/retard timing, and how much fuel to add to ensure a safe tune.

its not all about power, its about RELIABLE power. i could throw a 100 shot on my car today and make 350-400hp untuned but for how long?

ALL MAN MADE THINGS HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE! we are always trying to find ways to push the envelope but as i said i have been lucky doing that back then with out a tuner! now that scotty takes care of that dept for me even that junk yard ls v being chipped n tuned now feels way stronger safer and more reliable. now with the same set up above we are running mostly 7:00s in the same 1/8 mile with one 6:99 pass as well this fall. going from 7:40-6:99 with just tuning and a street tune and race gas tune chip is well worth the money to me!

this is an old thread. but anyways

I had a stock(internally) gsr with bolt ons and 190K miles. I started off at a 75 shot, went through 10 bottles and upped to a 100whp shot. Went through 15 bottles on the 100whp shot and still never made a plug electrode gap change. I always tued my own though. 1100psi, 2 degrees of timing, 1 step colder plug and 1 size bigger on the fuel jet.

As long as the mixture is correct you'll be fine!
