View Full Version : Lowered the Mullet Mobile this weekend!!!! (Iroc Z28)

WAT TURBO?

used the torch and bounce method this weekend to lower the iroc. I know this might be a redneck way of doing it, but I wanted to see if I would have suspension geometry issues before I spent money on springs, struts, panhard bars, LCAs etc. Anyways here are some pics. It looks pretty good for a nasty ole turdgen camaro :super: Comments? Its lowered 1.5" in the front and 1.25" in the rear. I think it could stand to go lower in the rear but the springs were starting to deform lol.

Pretty much everyone on here knows that I'm a HUGE supporter of heating springs. Personally, I like an even ride height car so I would lower the rear to match the front. Yours is pretty close and I don't know that I would bother trying to even it out because you may end up dropping it lower in the rear.

but the springs were starting to deform lol.

That's to be expected. Later, QD.

I have always wondered something... How do you keep the car from being uneven when you heat springs ?

Good point. I thought the shape of the car would look good with a slight rake. I ended up measuring the distance dropped instead of trying to measure the distance from the floor and trying to get the front and rear dead even. The rear is about .75" higher overall. While Im a supporter of the heated springs as well, It can be a negative selling point.

1.Heat
2.Bounce
3.MEASURE
4.MEASURE
5.MEASURE

Optional: 6. Have a small amount of luck.

repeat :)

Yeah cause ive seen 4 friends heats springs and in less than a year they would break. Steel just can't be re heated and cooled then re heated and cooled it grows brittle.

I always heat the exact same spring on both sides and in the exact same order. One thing that happens is that when you are done and the springs are cooling off, they will settle a little bit more. This is why you really have to get into it so much so that it doesn't settle unevenly. Some people put blocks or a car jack raised up to the point where they want the car to stop dropping. I just use my eyes. After the amount of time I've been doing this, I have no problem using my eyes as my judge.

If you mean selling point as in trying to sell a car lowered that way, I guess it can be. But that really would be true in the case of someone not familiar or ignorant to lowering a car via that method.

No need to bounce at all. And with practice, no luck is necessary, either.

I've just NEVER (literally) had a problem. Later, QD.

If you have a torch and a buddy, heating them is much easier than cutting. We did it in about 10 min. Never turned the torch off lol.

I would NEVER buy a car thats been lowered like this. Lowering springs are only 200 bucks. Spend the cash and do it right.

I think you've misread me and misunderstood me. I will lower a car like this again. My CVCC is lowered this way. I will always lower my vehicles via this method. But I will NOT lower someone else vehicle this way. Later, QD.

Mine was slightly "raked" too. I had a 92 with an LS1. Was alot lower than yours. Shit scraped everywhere I went that didnt have a decent road. My driveway killed the anniversary kit.
