97,000 original miles, it's pretty much dead stock except for some random bucket seats.

picked up for $950

Engine and bay were covered in grease, leaves etc.. had been sitting for a good stretch.
previous owner replaced carb float, timing belt, water pump etc.. said engine flooded after carb float sank and replaced it just never cleaned the spill. smoked a bit but it burned off and i hosed it down with degreaser.

replaced the battery, rear left taillight and brake light switch.
right quarter panel is cracked, have a replacement. some rust here and there.
bad where the quarter panel is exposed. water leaks in on the passenger side because of it. some mold on the carpet..

brake light is on in the cluster, wont come off. bad fuse, etc...

plans: ditch the interior, degrease the engine, fix miscellaneous shit, replace fuel fliters dont know what else off the top of my head. cleaned the carb some, car idles high when cold, wont keep idle when cold.

swap???

I had a 87 crx as a beater car in highschool that was an si and fuel injected it was a fun little car! Just be careful of the plastic front fenders they are very very weak so dont lean on them!

i had a 91 CRX SiR,
it was almost a hopeless project for me.. the whole rearend wash CRUSHED.

looks like yours has ALOT of potential, dont let it go to waste man!

I love me some torsion bar Hondas! Nice project man. It would be fun with a D16A1/Dohc zc swap! Be sure to check out redpepperracing.com, you'll find a lot of good info there.

I had an 87 as well, bought it from the original owner, 120,000 miles on it, VERY clean. I loved it. They're STUPID light. Def. check out RPR.

leave it stock dont try to swap it! Since this is a carb model your will have to do all kinds of wireing to do it!

I had a 84 civic hatchback and I loved that car. Drove it for 4 years and never had to do a single thing to it. It over heated at a light and when it turned green I tried to get thew the light and the motor blew. First car and I just junked it. Stupid Stupid I still regret that.

Throw a D16a1 in there with some Side draft carbs. I got the pleasure to drive one with that setup, not the fastest thing on the road, but it was hellacious fun.

I've had a 84 civic that I completely redid to MPFI and obd1, but I never got to finsih it sadly. :(

cool little project.

brake light either one of two things. Low brake level switch on master cylinder or hand brake switch defective.

yeah watch for the fenders and header panel.

You can still get the header panel but not the fenders.

I had a 87 crx si that was fun as hell.

I had the 86 civic as well. I swapped in a jdm engine years before swaps were the fashion.

Made the car come alive again.

Update...

I went ahead and replaced the quarter panel.

I also got the brake light to come off the dash.

I also managed to fuck up the perfectly running carb!!!

I guess that's just my luck, a 23 year old carb in the hands of a 20 year old noob.

All I did was douse the carb with a little bit of carb cleaner and let a friend tinker with it some.
(The car would not idle steady afterwards and bogged at just about any speed)

This morning I had to drive it for a court date and on the way there I noticed something. The car was only bogging down until it reached 4,000 rpm and then it seemed as if magically the motor opened up and would soar if it kept past 4k.

I did the next best thing I could and took it to a shop. Guy tears apart the carb, say's it's missing a screw and that was causing the carb to flood. He proceeds to use a glue/sealent to seal where the missing screw is suppose to go and tells me the brake booster is bad aswell.

Car started fine and held idle at about 1,000 rpm. He drove it up and down the street and it wasn't sputtering at all. I leave the shop and pick up some speed down the road and here's the clincher.

The car now bogs down when it reaches 4,000 rpm. It's as if he fixed the low-end but now top-end power is virtually non-existant.

I'm at a loss as I don't have $50 dollars to shell out to every mechanic that swears they can fix a carb that was running perfect just a day ago. :no:

RPR is a great site but it's like flipping stones to get answers on there.
I really don't feel right doing the work myself unless I know exactly what I'm doing.
All I want is to get the car back to stock performance and reliability.

Help, suggestions and input are aprreciated.

You should make a more detailed post in General Tech, there might be some old school knowledgeable ppl around to help you!

On a side note - If there was a screw missing that can cause the carb to flood I'm guessing fuel is able to run through it? And if so then sealing it off probably wasn't the best idea.. Maybe you should start by locating a replacement screw and setting it in place b/c if it controls any amount of fuel flow then it has the potential to greatly affect idling and general carb operation as it might have been a mixture control screw. Just a guess!

Also - if you let your friend adjust anything on the carb it could have been a fuel mixture type screw which would throw off idling or other partial throttle applications. Look for detailed info on fuel mixture screws.

nice! i really want one too...if i were you i would pick up them mounts just in case you do wanna swap it. but i think if you put in a regular d16a6 and do mpfi swap...it will be pretty quick.

Like the Crx man. I have a Nissan Nx, which reminds of a crx so i'd like to own a crx one day.
