My buddy at work just showed me where this car was in Grassroots Motorsports mag this month. The article said it has a 3.5 VQ in it if it is in fact the same car.

Great vid.

Impressive. The guy was a little ambitious with his late breaking in his porsche so it kinda made for some tense moments because rear ending that would have made his day lol. Not expensive for you but I can't imagine him feeling too good about the whole experience.

On Thursday the motor was on the floor, on Friday it was back in, early Saturday morning it would finally stay running so we loaded it up and started driving. Got to Charlotte at 6am Saturday, first Session was 8am.

Saturday we ran TTA (Hoosier gives contingency tires to top finishers if there are enough cars in the group, so we were chasing tires) and took 3rd place on an untuned motor with new cams, a second or so behind a couple of Z06 vettes. I think we ran a 1:23 or so.

CiN Motorsports was kind enough to hook us up, stay late, and strap us to the dyno to tune the motor after coming by to check out the car. It was great because I use the tuning software one way, they use it another, the tune came out great.

Sunday we ran TTB and clicked off 1:21.

We have a TTE record there too.

Good deal, is TTA fastest? I don't follow NASA much.

How do you like the track? It's either Charlotte or Barber, I know Barber is the nicer track but Charlotte just seems interesting to me and we may be racing under the lights. lol

Big J

TTA though TTF are classed and restricted based on a points system.

Every car has a base class determined by HP weight, special features etc. Every class has 20 points available for modification, once you exceed 20 points you move to the next class. i.e. 2 points for an exhaust, 2 for a header, 6 for cams, 2 for big brake kit, 2 for sway bars, 1 for a splitter, etc, etc, etc.

Some cars are based high right off the bat, like a Z06 or a Porsche, so they don't have a lot of wiggle room before they hit the TTS, TTU, and TTR classes, which are unlimited.

TTS and TTU unlmited classes only have a HP/wt celling, TTR has none. So S, U, and R have no points for mods, so you are pretty free to do anything (more or less)

With this format you have to make good decisions to make the car as competitive as it can be.

The Sentra SE-R has a base class of TTE* (+7 because of faster steering rack, larger brakes, sway bars etc, from the factory)

The other way to build a car is to weigh the car, then dyno, and submit the numbers for a reclass and then add up your mod points not related to the motor and power output. We had to with the swap so we were reassigned a base class of TTC** with the V-6. The big disadvantage there is you are locked in the that HP/wt, so we are at capped at 2800lbs and 265whp.... so we run TTB and some times TTA stuck at a TTC power and wt level.

BTW I don't drive the car, I just make it fast. For 2012 we'll be working on my car. 1995 200sx SE-R planned to get a VQ35 swap and twin turbos, being built for the unlimited classes.

Ah so basically like their road racing classes? At least PT is similar I think. I'm hoping to run the NASA 8 hour race at RA in December, haven't had good luck with NASA previously though. lol VQ in a 200SX is for the win! I have a B13 that I'd love to do that to. lol

I've just had bad experience with the way they decide to run things and some of their out of the hat rules to suite whatever they're feeling that day.

Big J

The rules are pretty straight forward for a sanctioning body....... you only have to read them 4-5 times for them to make sense, lol. There are 2 rule books, one for everybody, and then one for each type of racing.

It's actually been pretty easy to get rules interpreted or get things OK'd by the national directors when I've brought them up. Never had an issue at the regional level.

Does the SCCA have a bar-b-que dinner on the last race day of a weekend and roll out coolers of beer?

Not actual car rules but licensing BS, trying to get top dollar, and other things, my first NASA weekend was bad enough that I still hold a grudge. lol Yes, SCCA has a social usually on Saturday night. Who doesn't do that? lol

licensing is important. It's a process, everyone does it, unless you come in with another competition license and petition the director to get a waiver. Again the specifics would be in the rule book. I'd give them another shot, because unless you have a comp license and you follow the procedure, they're not just going to let you hop in a car an do the enduro because you say you can drive in traffic on a track at speed.

I will give them another shot in December as I have an SCCA competition license now, NASA requires the whole HPDE thing to even register for their comp school which is fine, except in a case where someone has loads of track day experience it just seems useless to me to go through another ladder of moving up, it's a huge investment to run that many HPDEs. I've read the CCR and even some people in charge don't follow it directly, I've been told two different things about something by the same person. I'm not going to cry and complain about it as I will try them again, but it's not only me who has had issues with the way things are ran.
