okay so i have a h22a with following mods. type s cams s2 cam gears. aem fuel and regulator. 450cc injectors. walbro 255. velocity stack. kidd racing header. s2 intake manifold. 55 shot nitrous. would i benefit from running open header in a race?

My understanding is that you'll lose low-end torque. I guess it depends on the type of race.

drag race 1/4 mile. i would prob be rocking it like that for a about a week unitl the cut out comes in. would that be okay on valves

From what I've read, that's a myth, but I would definitely let a mechanic chime in. I'm a computer nerd.

I daily drive open header you can definitely feel the loss of torque from your launch, its better to have an exhaust system to create back pressure

i have a 3inch all the way back with no cat muffs or resinators off the drag race header. so i wouldnt fell any gains with open header right?

it would be easy fix with a nice turbo kit l0l

i interned under Richard Petty for a while and had the same question, according to one of there master techs running open header should make you gain power not loose

I'm gonna say u would benefit due to u using nitrous, not with just all motor

i drove my car once open header. i could DEFINITELY feel a difference tq wise. this was going from just a straight pipe to open header. now that i actually have a full exhaust its pulls much better.
i say run some 2.5 inch pipe, and slap a nice free flowing muffler on to give you some back pressure. :goodjob:

^ I agree, my Shit run good with exhaust

If I was you, I would just get a Nice FULL exhaust made.. If you already dont have one. With a Good muffler.

You need some type of back pressure or you will warp your valves and to whoever said you will gain horsepower, you a not correct with the given situation. His header is not built/molded to create enough back pressure without an exhaust.

idk i ran a stock DA at the track 3x all 16-16.1 on the 1/4 mile then unbolt my axle back and ran a 15.7 and a 15.8...no mods just stock...

what size diameter was your piping? if you unbolted a 1.5'' axle back of course its going to pull better.

Open header will "perform" better than a SHITTY STOCK midsection/exhaust, DUH

"back pressure" is the real myth here. Traditionally back pressure would mean a resistance to flow, being the size of the exhaust or the bends/turns in the exhaust. This actually has an adverse affect on an engine's performance being that it restricts exhaust flow causing backed up conditions in the cylinder.
However, what you DO want is to enhance the effects of scavenging within the exhaust which deals with how exhaust gas travels from each exhaust port in "pulses" that harmonize together and can be optimized for different power characteristics.
All that to say - Open headers will provide different power characteristics from your engine. With an open header exhaust gases exit the shorter tailpipe much sooner which will give you MORE PEAK HP.
- With the exhaust on you will have power in the lower RPM range, invariably producing more torque lower in the rev range.
I would say running the exhaust would be better since the increase in HP will be minute and in the very highest rpm range (better for sustained high RPMS). You will want the lower end torque for the most important part.. THE LAUNCH :goodjob:

again it was all stock...idk
