Toyota is supposed to be dropping the joint venture FT-86, but I saw this Scion commercial tonight and noticed this car at the end of the pack. Are they going to run the FT-86 under the Scion brand here? This is just a screenshot that I grabbed from the same commercial on their website.

Remember back when I asked this question. Well looks like there may be some truth to it. This is a copy and paste from Jalopnik. Here is the link to their site. http://jalopnik.com/5660934/scion-fr+s-is-the-new-toyota-ft+86

Scion FR-S Is The New Toyota FT-86?The Toyota FT-86 may not be the vehicle to save Toyota from itself, as sources report the vehicle will be branded in the U.S. as the Scion FR-S, cost $25,000, and get a boring redesign. But wait, it's worse!

Since the FT-86 was first revealed we've heard nothing but conflicting bad news about the RWD, affordable sports car product Toyota's been promising.

The latest bad news comes from sources close to Toyobaru, who are saying the car's being sold in the U.S. as a Scion to prop-up the struggling brand.

Ive been sitting on this information in disbelief, however we have other confirmations in hand now. According to our inside source at Toyota the FT-86 is going to be released as a Scion in the USA. Toyota and Scion Marketing and Management adjourned across the US this past Tuesday to receive the news. Their reasons behind using Scion is reported as Marketability and pricing structure, Scions as you might know share a fixed pricing structure at all dealerships. If released as a Toyota the FT86 could be suspect to price hikes. In the end it sounded like Subaru and Toyota thought that Scion was the best choice for the FT-86, I strongly disagree.

The report also included that of a 2.5l Engine would make it to production. The current engine "marketed" with the Toyota FT-86 is only a 2.0 liter. The choice of the 2.5l is a good one. However they are also increasing the original entry level price range around $25,000 US.

Further, they add the vehicle's Subaru variant may end up Europe only and, the design of the vehicle we love, will be transformed into a more boring Scion-esque look.

Dear FR-S,

I am writing this letter to help you along on your journey. What do you have to learn from me you say? Well, the answer should be somewhat obvious.

I too, was shouldered with the responsibility of saving a dying brand.

You will be launched with much fanfare and applause from the community of hardcore car guys and auto enthusiasts. You will bask in the limelight of glowing reviews from the car mags and many blogs and websites around the world.

Life will be good.

Slowly, but surely, the praise will start to fade. Not for any wrongdoing on your part, but the public is a fickle beast. You will still be respected by your hardcore base, but the buying public as a whole might have missed the initial blitz of your arrival. If they had infact glossed over your arrival, chances are they might not consider you at all when they see you for the first time. "Don't you know who I am?" will fall on deaf ears.

Your bretheren in the showroom will not understand you. A life of staring at FWD siblings most of whome lack even performance aspirations will not help to move you into the mainstream. You will always be a niche product, in a niche brand that sadly, is losing ground.

FR-S, enjoy it while it lasts. For as you go, Scion may not. I wish you better success than I, but if not, the Orphan Car Counceling group meets Wednesday nights at Nash's house. We will be there if you need us. Please bring a snack of your choice.

Thank you,

G8.

PS - Plymouth is allergic to peanuts.

and it's going to take a lot more than moving their rwd "performance" car to the Scion brand to put Toyota under, no matter how disappointing it may be,

I really don't care how they market the car as long as it comes out and performs well. With that being said I have noticed a lack of attention to fit and finish in the Scion line of cars that isn't there in the Toyota line.

looks like that 2.5L is putting down 170chp.
Unacceptable for a "sporty" car in the $25,000 range.
