Rumor had it that GM would continue to import the Pontiac G8 as a police-package Chevy. It turns out rumor had it wrong—mostly. While the Pontiac G8 is officially dead, another car on its platform is coming from Australia to patrol our roads. GM will allow U.S. police departments to order a cop-spec Chevrolet Caprice beginning next year, with the first cruisers hitting the road in 2011. The Caprice is built on the Holden platform used for the G8 and which also underpins the new Camaro. Holden calls the car Statesman in Australia, while it is rebadged as a Chevy Caprice for sale in the Middle East.

I thought I had added the pic, but it's there now.

It does look like they just facelifted the old impala and made it longer. I bet the cops will say it's too damn big. I can see that coming....

I really hope they make a "civilian" version...I miss the Pontiac G8 already and this is about the closest thing to it.

With cars like the Evo series and the STi on the road, I'm surprised that they still haven't come up with something better to chase us with.
They still need something with more power (boost mabye?) and something that corners better.

Use of radios and sheer numbers of cops are faster and handle better than any car...

x2

And you have to take into consideration that when they stick with a basic, common car, like this, parts will be alot less expensive to replace. If they started using a more complicated platform on a large scale (like something with boost) there is more that can go wrong, and more to replace. Besides, alot of PDs have performance cars from drug busts and what not that they convert into squad cars. Newton Co has a new Land Rover Sport (Supercharged) as a K-9 Unit.

i think if police department s and other agencies, if they had their choice of car they woulb probaby get in something japanese or european to be able to keep up with sti and evos .... but, for them they got to use american vehicles .... but still thats when mustangs and corvettes and camaros come in play...
