GSR immobilizer

i keep getting "database error" when i search so i'll just ask;

im swapping a 2001 GSR setup in my 98 civic. can anybody tell me how, or refer me to a reference, that can tell me how to disable the immobilizer on a 2001 GSR ecu w/ out have a CEL on forever? im not ready for the p28 yet and i HATE CELs unless theres an actual problem.

If you're swapping the motor into a '98 civic, then you don't need the same ecu for 2001. You can use 96-99 gsr's because those are obd2a and are not immboilized, which is also plug and play for your car.

Okay, as far as immobilizers go, your best bet is to source an ecu that is for the gsr and OBD2a so there is no immobilizer. there is a guy on craigslist that will do it for 125, 2293311200 is his number. he somewhat knows what he is doing. but he is pretty good with the hondas. you can not simply break off the immo chip, it will throw a cel. you can solder in a dummy chip or disable it through software. if you choose to keep the immobilizer (i would) then you would need to swap in the immo ring and wire into the column and dash and wire to ecu.

i have a couple of questions though

Are you utilizing your civic harness?
have you considered using the integra ecu harness (they are a 2 piece design) and using an obd2a or obd1 ecu harness ?

im using the civic harness. i have not considered using the integra harness, but now that you have mentioned it, i may consider it. for now, im gonna run an obd2a GSR ecu while acura reprograms the ecu. i have an acct with acura so theyre gonna reprogram it for a damn good price. less than what everyone else says acura charges to do it.

the perk of the gsr harness is that you do not have to wire for IAB and Evap. it is already included. if your engine harness is obd2b you will need an obd2b ecu harness if tyhat is the ecu you will choose. just so you understand, there is no difference bewteen any years (96-01) except for the immobilizers (usdm only) so unless you install an immo ring and key there is no benifit.
