As Most of yall know I parted out the hatch and figured it was time to move on to something new.

Well I bought a IS300 last Friday. Didn't buy it to race. I just wanted a nice DD. In the future I want to boost it. Doing some research on that and it looks like its going to be around $8000 for a nice turbo kit. So that will be on hold for some time.

Now to the runs last night. I know IS300 are SLOW didn't expect to win, just wanted to see what it had. So knowing chouston always is up for running and figure he wanted some revenge on me I hit him up and asked if he wanted to do a couple hwy pulls.

first run from a 60 roll. before he even had to shift into his next gear he already put buses on me

next run from a 40 roll he puts about 2 or 3 cars before he shifts and then he was buses ahead.

sorry but there is no videos

maybe I will hook the nitrous up and run him again to see where we are at.

Soooo, what made u get the IS300? Surely you researched the cost of modding the car b4 u purchased it. Maybe u should just drive it normal and enjoy having a lexus and when ur ready to come back to racing, get another hatch or go Nissan route.

yeah i did research it before. but if i boost it, it wont be for racing. I got it so i could have a clean DD.

What is the point of putting down 8k to boost it if u not going to race it. And I'm pretty sure you can get a decent turbo kit for half that price.

you always get what you pay for.... the quality turbo kits for the IS are around 5500-6000 and that doesn't inlcude a full exhaust or a few other key ingredients. plus the install... its gonna be at least 8-10k.

nitrous is a great alternative... the motor and stock fuel setup will allow for wet 100 shot. that should get him into the low 13s or high 12s based on driver and conditions. i have ran a 13.4 in an auto IS with a 90 shot. i have also run a 13.1 with a 90 shot on a 5 speed IS trapping 113.

but you will need to upgrade the clutch. it won't last long.

is300 was a good choice IMO..all i would do is stance it out leave it all stock motor wise

What about finding a deal on a factory TT setup from a Supra? They made decent power in stock trim, then add a little more boost, full exhaust, and a good tune, and it seems like it would be well worth the money/time.

As far as the money for doing it right, I 100% agree. My car has damn near $6k in the complete turbo setup (turbo kit, electronics, supporting mods).

lol @ 8 grand for a turbo setup.....i'd be willing to bet it could be done cheaper with quality stuff

08-05-2010, 08:57 PM
i doubt it. maybe with deals that others aren't privy to, but that's pointless.

It costs money to do things right, the nickel and dime shit is what's a killer.

nah....we can build a manifold for a decent price, a good turbo, i/c kit, injectors, a pump, EMS, and tuning for less than 8 grand, I guarantee that

yeah, Probably getting the kit custom is going to be your best bang for the buck. One stop shop.

the kit looks decent, i don't know what i think about a "SRT spec" turbo. Why don't they just tell you what the hell it is? lol

And "never has to be upgraded again" shouldn't be in your vocabulary. :D

I bet you could piece up a turbo kit with half the money you would pay for that kit, and probably make more hp.

a turbo, manifold, and wastegate would make a good first purchase. No sarcasm.

When going for baller status, it takes a shit-ton of nitrous. It's a disproportionate ratio naturally. :lmao:

In my opinon if nemo did not buy it to race, just put a quick shot of gas to surprise that unexpected mofo that thinks they got a easy win.......

could you boost an IS for less than 8k, probably. i tried that route and ended up spending twice as much. especially when you don't know what you're getting into, buying a complete, tested, and proven kit can't hurt. i have seen many people try to piece together a kit, myself included, and ended up spending way more than an SRT kit with similar power gains. Boosting an IS300 isn't as easy as bolting on a kit. you need to lower compression either by a headgasket or by pistons. you also need to tap the upper oil pan for a oil return line, you also have to add a fuel return line. there are so many variables on these cars its sad. the stock auto trans is only good to about 400 rwhp with a valvebody upgrade. fully built auto trans can only hold about 500. the 5 speed trans can only hold about 300-350 with a decent clutch. so if you are a 5 speed, you will want to convert to the r154. you will also want an lsd if you don't already have one. etc etc etc etc.

again, could you boost an IS for less than 8k.... more than likely yes. if you want my opinion, to do it right, you will need about 8-10k at a minimum.

8-10 grand is another low 12 second car out there ready to be bought lol

GGPIS3
08-11-2010, 05:22 PM
^^ this is true if you are content driving an older vehicle. the IS is already almost a 10 year old car. ofcourse you can buy a new 20 year old car and have that same power. this isn't about how to spend money or what car is a better option for the money. this is just stating the costs of boosting an IS300. it is not cheap by any means.

for more info, just go to www.my.is

that site is the bible for IS300s. just about everyone on that site, shops included, will agree at what i've posted.
