im wanting to buy a ecu so i can start tuning my car. im wondering if its safe to buy a ecu
off of ebay thats already been chipped or should i buy a virgin ecu and get a local shop to
socket and chip it?

take your stock ecu and chip it with either phearable or xenocron. Easy to do it yourself or whoever will be doing the tuning can chip it for you and tune it afterwards.

only if it's obd-0 or obd-1, if it's 96 and up then you can't chip them.

Just get a virgin ecu and get it socketed and chipped if you dont have one. You dont know what you will get off eBay.
