Ok, so im into the import scene, but dont have the money to really go out wit a crazy fast car. im 17 and work at panda express. but i do what i can with my 97 mitsubishi mirage 1.8l right now all i have is cold air intake, exausht, igntion wires, new spark plugs, and a bored out and polished throttle body. so we got a few people at my job that are into the scene and we always chill after work and talk about cars. so one dude i work with has a truck and he wanted to race for fun. so there is this long ass 2 laned road and it was 12am so no traffic. i beat him easily. then this other guy i work with has an accord with cold air intake, full cat-back exausht, headers, and some good tires, and his car is nice too has a nice kit on it and good system, so he wanted to race and i went for it even though i knew i was gonna loose. so we lined up and went when the light turned. we both have automatics (dont make fun of me).i had a much better start than him and started out with the lead and he slowly gained on me, but he didnt catch me at the end and i won. i was extremely shocked, cuz i didnt think my mirage could possibly beat this thing. i think it is because my car is so light. his car obviously had more power but that thing is pretty heavy, and his subs are so heavy his rear almost touched the ground. he wants to race me again without his subs in, i think he will actually beat me then

Im saving up cuz i want to put a 4g63 in there this summer, and maybe get that EVOIII body kit, thats my dream right there.

Yeah do a good job and make it clean. I mean you can't recreate the evo III cause you'll still be FWD but it'll look good if its a complete swap and a 4g63 is a great motor. I love mine.

The best turbo mirages are the late 80s hatches that comes turbo stock. Mirage/Dodge Colt GT same thing. Come with a 4g61t stock then swap in 4g63 and that shit's hot.

^any relation to a mirage cyborg?

Like the japanese cyborg? No the cyborg (newer ones) are just NA fwd. The OG turbo mirage/colt looks like my front end and then a hatch.

Non turbo 4g63s came stock in some hyundais. Like older Accents.

really????
damn kinda makes you wonder
why you dont see too many of them around.
why not just turbo it and you got a light weight
boosted car.

would be a whole lot easier and cheaper than boosting some
other cars
probably faster too IMO

you can find a long block for as little as $500 (used of course), they popup every once in a while, but definitley under a grand (used).

ShogunStylez

ok thnx.
so is that pretty much the engine right there?
and im not sure the engine, i think its the 4g63T the stock turbo eclipse engine. can you get those in a mirage. and also, beside buying the engine, what other cost would i be looking at to get this thing in right and running smooth. I heard that batlgrounds can probably do this for me. im tryin to get it all planed out before summer time. thnx for all ya'lls help

1) stay away from batlgrounds...they couldn't even drill and tap 4 bolts correctly for me. I took it to them because I heard their name everywhere, plus they have a shop car evo so I figured they could do this work on my eclipse...they screwed it up!
2)yes a 4g63t out of an eclipse (89-99) would work in your car...but you will need a few other things aside from the engine. Including things like a turbo, intake mani, exhuast mani....blah blah blah.

try to buy the first gen 4g63 versus the secong gen cause of crank walk

issues on the senond gens. also the second gen i read was made in the U.S.

1439/2000
11-10-2005, 08:57 AM
Anyway find a 6 bolt (1st gen motor) And do a rebuild, small 16g or big 16g and you're golden.

ShogunStylez

where should i look to get the engine. i have no clue where to find one.

Yeah did you watch the videos I posted? You probably have the 1.8 POS but you can put a 4g63 in it and bust ass.

I know jarco doesnt really sell 4g's anymore try dsmtalk.com, galantvr4.org and some other dsm sites. There will always be some motorsets for sale on there.

Try turbomirage.com (go figure) for more info about the swap. Sport compact car also did a wirte up to try their articles in the Budget Bad boy issue.

i would buy a low mile 4g63 from an Evo8, and use the evo8 16g

search here www.evolutionm.net

EVO VII engines are probably expesinve, even used. if i hadthat money i would just buy an evo. but maybe im wrong im just guessing they are expensive

SandM
11-10-2005, 09:11 PM
well, last i checked (previous scouting for the lancer) the JDM Evo engines werent cheap. like 1439/2000 said, 6-bolt 4G63... good motor, more reliable than 2nd gen, but as for the 16g.... 20g baby... <-- but really, dont do that quite yet.

ShogunStylez
11-10-2005, 10:29 PM
If i ever had 20g's there is no way in hell i would drop that in my mirage, i would strate up by the damn evo.

16g and 20g are references to mitsubishi turbos, not money.

Evo8 engines are turned 180deg and won't fit. Evo3 engine would work but it's not really that much better than a DSM 4g63 and definetly not worth the money (you could build dsm motor for that). Check the sites 1439/2000 mentined, there is also dsmtuners, and dsmtrader (although I don't know if it is still closed).
If your buying a new motor I would go ahead and get a 6bolt (unless you get a deal on a 7), but really crankwalk is overrated, mine has over 130k on it and it still has perfect compression. And trust me it's sees it's share of boost.
If I were gonna get a 16g it would have to be an evo3 16g and 20gs are good sized turbos and cheap, but there are better turbos (faster spooling more power) they just cost a lot :(

DAMN!!! i feel like an idiot now.
but still, aren't evoVII engines expensive, i imagine they must be.

ShogunStylez

But wouldn't 4g63 from an eclipse be enough to bust ass, i already know it fits good in the mirage. and i could probably find a good used one for a good price. right ?
