View Full Version : √ Engine Light ('96 del Sol)

1996 del Sol VTEC (b16a2)

Alright... ran some SeaFoam through the Slo (brake booster, oil, fuel, the works). Of course it bogged it down when I was running it through the booster, but it recovered quickly... runs like a top still. BUT my check engine light came on.

It's showing a code P1300 (random misfire) and P0301-0304 (random misfire on all cylinders)

So I'm wondering what you guys think may be triggering my light. As I said, the car runs great, fuel economy hasn't changed, nothing. I have cleaned the IACV and changed the plugs within the last day and still no change. I'm guessing I fudged up a sensor or something?

Thanks for any info and reps will be given.

have you tried eraseing the codes and see if they come back?

Hmmmm, thats weird. Try doing what Silversol suggested. I really can't think of anything else it could be besides a sensor, maybe.

Since those codes became present and you have changed the plugs, D/C your battery for a few and let them clear.

yeah i pulled the ECU fuse for about 30 mins and it still came back. that should effectively 'reset' the ECU, no?

it should but D/C the battery just to be sure. also not sure if it would help or not but check to make sure you are getting spark at all cylinders.

disconnecting the battery did nothing. any other ideas?

Have you confirmed spark at all four cylinders?

oh yeah forgot about that lol. what's the best way to go about doing that? i don't have any meters.

i would get some rubber gloves and start your car, pull each plug and put it near some metal and look for a spark lol thats what i did.

also just a idea i have had this problem a few times swap o2 sensors sometimes when you sea foam it stuff clogs it.

Not sure a dirty o2 sensor will cause a misfire. Maybe on newer vehicles where the ECU actually gives a shit about there being o2 sensors, but maybe not on an obd1 car.

my car is ob2. o2 sensors might be worth changing.

are they the same plug as obd1? if so, i have one that was pulled from a stock LS header you can try out. hopefully, i can use the stock ones from my sol when I do my swap.

I will try to get down there to bring you that header. I took the sensor off expecting to use it on my new header and forgot that you needed the stock header back. Will bring it to you sometime this week.

Mr. Clean, if you want to try my stock sensors to see if that fixes it before you spend money on some, let me know and I will see about pulling them off.

well mine are on a d16 too but if the plugs are the same, they should work right? before my car took a shit on me, there were no codes.

It could be spark plugs, wires, coils or the distributor. The cam/crank sensors in the distributor could be contributing to the problem but most likely they are not. Try another distributor with other wires and new plugs and see how that goes.

yeah i'm about due for a lot of things so i guess i'll just have to wait to get the cash up and change out the wires and dizzy.
