I guess its a bit more cool when youre into miatas, simply being there are few na/nb that look good with 17s. And no one has ever really went all out to fit 17x9s, its the unheard of.
Would I do it? haha nope, but gotta give him props for getting the job done.

Looks cool. I would like to see that kind of meat under the car with a purpose though. I get the whole stance thing, but I'm starting to think people are going at it with the same mindset as the go-fast guys who say there is never any such thing as too much power. The problem with this mentality on a appearance based trend is that it just ends up looking kind of goofy. The guy obviously put a ton of work into making these wheels "fit" and for that I like it. Definitely not my taste though, since it is probably a pain in the ass to even drive the car, which defeats the entire purpose.

17s aren't too big for this body...but those wheels are too wide...without that camber the wheels would stick out 2 inches

17's are grossly over sized for this car. No bigger than 15s should be there.

Tires in the rear look to still be rubbing on the tires

So the rear tires are rubbing on themselves?

Is air their ejaculate? I'm guessing from the always erect valve stem? Later, QD.

Now if you notice this much wheel is only on s NC, which is the latest iteration of the miata. It has much more room for tire. Few have gotten 17s to work right on a NA/NB. One of those few is on here, some may know him as dopplehanger or somin or frohawk. He also needs 17s to clear his massice Brembo GT kit. Most of the competitive miata guys run 15x8 or 9s.

These are 15x9s on the nb body style

Most Miatas at the track run 15x7 because most run SM.

I'm not feeling the car in the OP.

Rota Grids look agressive on anything....Only wheel they make that looks better then the original (Volk TE-37). Had a set for a while. I would get another but I'm thinking about some new Wed sports or CCW's.

Like I said name any of the big guys running less than a 9. The reason SPEC MIATA guys run 15x7 is because its a RULE! Nothing wider than 7in. Now name anyone that is COMPETITIVE running otherwise, not class regulated.

All classes for the most parts have a LIMIT. I don't know any other Miatas anyway unless you're speaking autocross and that's boring. lol

For the most part though a 15x7 WORKS, most track day guys even run it, it's a Miata...AKA not fast. Unless you're running some high boost insano setup but if you're NA you're just slowing the car down.

Fuji Racing runs 15x7.5 on their time attack Miata.

Marta Mike

It works, it doesnt work the best or have the fastest numbers. Fuji racing is also racing on rotas. Granted im not a fan of rotas they are good wheels but i personally would have went with a lighter option if I were gonna be at the track. Fuji's car also isnt the fastest track prepped miata. The guys running in unlimited classes like flyin miata, 949racing, slickauto, etc all run 9s bc they are proven faster. I really dont understand your theory the 15x9 by 949 is sub 13lbs which is most 15x7 so how is it that you are going to be slower. About the same weight with a bit more grip. 949 has tested the 9 on the track and at an autox and its faster. 7s are old news miata guys that want real grip are running 8s and 9s now. My was on lighter 7s when after i sold m 8s and started parting the car and the level of grip was greatly reduced. Granted acceleration picked up but my 7s are .2lbs lighter than a 9. But the car was still more stable and a lot faster in the turns with the 8s.

Elbow
06-09-2010, 07:47 AM
The Fuji Racing car I mentioned is a street tire class car, obviously unlimited is more, and obviously unlimited would mean WIDE tires because BIG HP numbers. In MY EXPERIENCE a Miata naturally aspirated with huge wide tires simple doesn't work as well, at least to my driving style. I'm not stupid when it comes to Miata setups or racing, no shit a 9 inch wide wheel will grip better if you're in a fast car. It's also about the driver.
