So I picked up a new car after owning 3 Rx-7s. I decided to stray into something different. I kept it Mazda and RWD, but no longer rotary.

I got a 1995 Miata. For the price I got it for, I expected I'd end up in a 1992 1.6L with a ragged top and 140K miles. It's a 1.8L with 113K miles, new top, and the interior is completely flawless other than very mild wear on the driver's seat. The car only really has 3 flaws. A weird vibration at 4,200 RPM, the e-brake cable is either not attached, or broken, and there is a decent dent in the driver's door. All for $2,700 :D

The suspension feels tight, like it's got all new bushings, shocks feel original, but not bad, shifter and pedal feel is crisp. I love how well it drives.

I gotta get rid of the bumper stickers, fix the e-brake, pull out the dent (maybe repaint the door), get some wheels and tires wider than 185s and I'll be content with no other mods for a while, then I'll go full on hardcore suspension when I have a more stable financial arrangement.

when I have a more stable financial arrangement.

You don't have a "stable financial arrangement" and you just spent $3K on a car? I predict that you'll take my curiosity and turn it into a flame war, but I had to wonder this aloud. Later, QD.

I've got the money to put me in a reliable DD that gets good MPG and still have backup emergency cash. But not for luxuries like performance coilovers, wider wheels and tires, etc. Key word was "When I have a more stable financial situation. I've got steady income, just running low on that backup cash, I want more of a safety cushion or money should something happen.

"key" word is neither here nor there, but I see what you're saying. Later, QD.

Nice, Miata FTW.

Although I prefer a 1.6 > 1.8 as many others do.

May I ask why?

1.6 revs faster, screams, and with intake and exhaust easily beats a 1.8. I've never driven a 1.8 (NA) that felt as peppy as a 1.6.

The 1.6 is also turbo ready if you ever wanted to go that route.

Ive heard 1.6 with a turbo can make 400 reliably.

Wow, pretty good deal, for that price I would rock a miata.

Yeah, and a 1.8L with I/E and bumped timing will beat a 1.6L with the same mods.
Sure the 1. is "peppy", but I think the 1.8L drives better.

But to the OP- I can tell you why the parking brake doesn't work correctly. Someone changed out the rear pads and didn't set the caliper back. Jack the rear of the car up, take the wheels off and on the back of the caliper you'll find a 14mm bolt. Now, take that off and insert a #6 hex/allen head (think it's 6..maybe 5) to tighten up the caliper. Tighten it up as much as possible by hand and then turn it back 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
