My friend has a stock 89 5.0 that would run you, but you would need to come to Gwinnett. I played with him in my G35...we did a dig to 40 (private property on a short section) and let's just say he spun wheels the entire time and was slightly sideways and was still passing me.

Gave it everything it had...5.0's have tons of torque...that is what they are known for. So their take-off is mean. 350Z/G35's lack in torque...they suck on take off. Now, if we started on a 40-50 roll...I would get him. I have raced 2 2005+ (1 was a 2008) Mustang GT's from a 40 roll and we were dead even up to about 120 and I pulled on him and continued to pull until I hit my max of 160. On take-off, those same Mustang's would beat me.

depending on the year, a stock 5.0 GT, if it has the h/o motor is a high 14 sec car. a newer GT(4.6 3v) runs high 13s. so either your G is a turd or your buddies car isnt stock. i find it very hard to believe that a stock 5.0 gt, with either a 2.73 or 3.31 gear can spin the tires all the way to 40mph.

My b.s flag is raised.

edit- i saw that you posted its a 89. with that being said, my buddy had a 91 fox with FRPP heads, 4.30 gear, all your favorite bolt ons, and slicks and only went 8.6s in the 1/8th mile. they do make some good torque but they are by no means, ungodly.

My brother has a 85 with HO and it is a bitch to launch with no wheel spin till 3rd.
Another of my brothers just got a 90 5.0 today im curious in seeing its pull.

well i guess the G is a turd then lol, i mean they are heavy cars so they wont have much take off. especially with the torque they make, but i still dont see a stock 5.0 outrunning it if he was spinning THAT bad. the guy needs to learn how to peddle it lol.

the reason people love the 5.0s is becuase they are stout motors that have a HUGE aftermarket. you put a nice cam, gear and a good set of heads on one and you have a pretty fricken quick car.

Sadly ive heard to many Z and G guys claiming the same take off is compared to a NA 300zx you just can't launch them.
They are heavy as shit and just NO torque but once they get going They will fly...

LS1's are rated at those numbers not LT1's, LT1's made the best of 285HP in the later 96 & 97 years before was like 250-265HP.... And 350z/G35's are slow/heavy IMO, I used to spank those in my SRT-PT(PT Cruiser W/SRT-4 motor) along with mustangs, but at least GT's would usually give me a run for my money.....

Mine with a K&N CAI, Edelbrock 50 state legal shorties, true duals, and street tires went 13.1 @ 104.5... not bad IMO. Not to mention the tune was off because the tuner said he couldn't get the car to run on his tune.

when was this? the last thread u had up, in 1/4 slips at least, you said you were running high 13s. its hard to believe a 13.1 out of an lt1 on street tires. sorry for being skeptical.

Shit, It's pretty much true... the 2011 mustangs V6's have more horsepower then the 3v 4.6s. They arent too much slower... :)

Almost more power but not quite. the thing thats crazy is the v6's come with a 2.73 gear, imagine how much a 3.73 or 4.10 gear is going to wake that car up.

plus the 4.6's have a hell of alot more potential. granted the v6's can take more boost then the v8s.

I said one year thing. lol. Not too many of those running around. I see more potential out of these v6's. I own a 2000 gt mustang with 2v 4.6 so I dont hate them, but i dont love them either. I seriously wish ford wouldve designed this 5.0 about 15 years ago, or something close. the 96 gt mustangs had 215hp. ANEMIC! If they couldve made a 5.0 with 300hp mustangs wouldve never been getting picked on by f-bodies back in the day. It really still continues, the ls1 f-bodies were whooping my GTO for awhile til i upped the game alittle. Now it's a good race. lol.

I agree. My 04 G35 ran a 14.06@99mph. Plenty enough to beat a stock 5.0.

I ran an 05ish N/A Saleen mustang. We went from about 60-130 and were nose to nose the entire time. All I had was intake/exhaust/plenum. Those mods put me at a whopping 234rwhp and about 225tq, but if I remember correctly, at the time I was rocking twankies. I had a passenger that can confirm. The Stang was riding solo.
