240's SUCK to get into drifting with without tons of mods, I personally say a E30 BMW. You have plenty of power/torque stock, with a factory LSD it will easily slide and it's easy to learn. Trying to drift a stock 240 is about as much fun as trying to go fast in one. Plus an E30 cost less.

I agree on the e30. 240's are just too underpowered stock, you have to get so much speed built up before you can hold a good drift. You can have fun fucking around in an open parking lot or something, but on a tighter course it's not going to get you anywhere. 86's are also pretty weak drift cars without a lot of cash into them. If you have money to swap the motor an 86 or 240 is a great start though. With the E30 you can just do suspension work plus the standard bolt ons and you would spank a 240 or 86 with the same mods. A 300zx might also be a good idea if you find one in good condition. I personally would start with a 5.0 mustang if I wanted a budget drift car, but idk if you're interested in anything domestic.

E30's and 86's can suffer rear suspension failures when slid hard, be careful they need reinforcement.
