My girlfriends birthday is coming up and all she told she wanted was "something special, and creative"...."and it better be good"

This was immensely more complicated than I thought it would be. But it's 18K white gold, I wanted silver but the jeweler said the metal would not be nearly malleable enough to shape it around the tooth, you can see how tiny those wires are and how delicate they are wrapped around to hold it in. And it had to be shaved and shaped to even fit in the base.

The tooth is our pitbull puppies lost canine. Needless to say I am very happy with the result.

And the puppy "Diesel", whose face it fell out of.

Ohh yea...the camera I used to shoot it with is a Nikon D80....and a Tamron 90mm Macro lens. A silk shirt I smuggled out of her closet, a desk lamp, a LED flashlight out of my garage. and a tri-pod.

Automatic setting, with the flash turned off because I am a complete nOOb.

I think it looks really good along with the pic. Very creative on the gift.

i like what you did in the first pic man. a lot...the focus is a little out of wack but GOOD first attempt and setting for the necklace.

^^ I agree...the focus is a little out of whack...but other than that, I give it a 9.

The picture needs to capture the details of the necklace and it doesn't just do that.....but it was a good effort on your part.

to go along with my other post. i would try next time maybe aperture priority..that way your DOF is more on the necklace itself as well as maybe adjust the focus area.

Seems more of a creepy gift than a "special" one. I can't imagine a female feeling warm and fuzzy after that.

But if it works. Later, QD.

I tried....I really did, but shooting through that lens is almost disorienting. The pendant itself is only just a little bit bigger than a dime and the Macro lens has almost a strange "fish-eye" effect around the outer edges. It's like taking a picture through a microscope. So I liked how the necklace was blurring out toward the right side so my best hope was focusing on the pendant...so then the (tooth) went out of focus.

It was like a weird push and pull of what was going to be clear and what was not. And the very first time I used the lens, my girlfriend bought it for taking pictures of flowers. But she helped by just showing me how to focus, functions of the camera, and put the lens on. <---that's how much of a nOOb I am.

I am trying to learn more and more...it's very complicated for me trying to take legit shots and keep up with everything you have to consider while taking the actual picture. But thanks for the tips! I certainly need them.

That's what a couple of people said before I actually started calling and asking around for someone that could fabricate this for me, but then others really liked the idea. So I actually asked my girlfriend, it kind of ruined the surprise but had to be sure because this thing was not cheap. But the Jewlers loved it, and thought it was a cool idea, and they themselves have never seen something like it, they have seen shark teeth, but not a dog for some reason. But the G/F loves it!

but more importantly I can now guilt trip her into getting me something absurd and ridiculous and expensive for my birthday there is not a decent rationalization for. Like Mugen and Spoon parts and other dumb useless shit like that for some reason I find myself wanting.
