i know what your thinking...the timing. me and my dad did this swap over this past week and we both know what we're doing and we've check the timing 3 times. #1 piston top dead center with cam gears looking right. distributor adjusted so its not that either. the only thing i can think of is the fact my car has a wiring harness for obd2 and my new b16 is obd1 but to think of it that should'nt make it idle all crazy...i have no clue. its fine as long as you have your foot on the throttle but as soon as you let off its got this choppy ass idle like the timing is off. is there anybody out there that knows what the hell is going on with my car?

I think you answer your own question. Change the harness. =]

What ECU you running?

man i hope i don't have to do that...that would really suck

if you're running an obd2 car your engine should be obd2...you can run an obd1 ecu w/ a conversion harness. change your sensors on the engine to obd2 and run the obd1 ecu or obd2 ecu. don't change the entire wiring harness to obd1, then your f#cked when it comes to emissions time. you're going to need to swap back temporarily to obd2 to pass unless you're in a place that doesn't require emissions or know someone.

is that why my cars idle is all crazy??

yeah change ur ecu and check the vaccum lines....near throttle body...might be loose

did you let it warm up at all?

yeah let it run about 10 min and even drive it down the street and back...i'll check out thoose lines cause i'm pretty sure i got a vaccum leak somewhere. so many little bugs! but got most of the major work done now i'm just having problems getting it run right.

yeah vaccums can screw up the idle.....

i think that might be it cause i do hear a vaccume leak somewhere

Follow the instruction scttydb411.. I would take his advice. ;)

ok people i'm good now...my dumbass friend did'nt scrape all the old gasket off the intake maifold when he put it on the new motor. that was the vaccum leak. the reason im running an obd2 harness on an obd1 motor is cause all i used off the new engine was block and head, the rest came off my b16a2 that was hydro-locked. damn cold air intakes. thanks again everybody for all the ideas.

good to hear you got it...sounds like eventhough engine is obd1, you have it as an obd2 anyway.

vac leak is common culprit and first thing to look at...assumed you had done that and swapped complete engine.

What harness you use wouldn't matter one bit as long as you have the correct ECU...it's only a few additional wires and you would just need a short conversion harness.

Idling problems are almost always a vacuum leak or crossed line :)

yeah i thought the timing was off but hey this was my first time ever pulling a engine out of a honda and there were just a few bugs to work out. beside braking a sensor on the throtlebody and having a friend leave part of the intake mani gasket on everything went well :)
