I'm about to buy a 99 accord and have read all the reviews concerning its transmission problem. It only has about 84000 miles on it and seems clean to me. I'm going to take it to a dealer to check it out too. My question is: What do I need to do to prevent the transmission from becoming damaged and screwing me in the future? If I change/check the transmission fluid will I be ok? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't know much about accords...

It's inevitable, I have 3 close friends/family that this has happened to.

is it really inevitable? i heard that if i just replace tranny fluid regularly and not drive recklessly then i should be ok.

If you're really concerned about it, get better transmission fluid and an upgraded transmission cooler. A lot of people that I've known to have this problem never really changed their fluid.

It just depends, from 98-02 Honda just made a poor design.
