How many people here ACTUALLY think when they buy their "OMG JDM" motor to do a swap in their Honda/Nissan/Toyota/Mazda that it really has 45k-60k miles?

RL...

Harry told them so.

Seems to be in every freak'in for sale thread with a "JDM" motor. Usually goes like this.

"245,913 miles on the chassis, JDM motor had 45k when I got got it. Probably put about 3k on it since the swap."

It drives me mad...

MAD I SAY!!!!!!!!

Unless your swap came with a cluster you have no freaking idea how many miles it has. Christ most of these "50k" motors are 12 years old.

"Yeah but they don't drive as far in Japan as we do..."

I wonder if people actually believe the ebay listings or they are just trying to bullshit people into thinking they have a low mileage car when it actually has eleventy billion miles?

Mine doesn't. My Ford motor for my Mazda had 85k when it was swapped...Did your Ford engine come from the Land-o-JDM? And was that in kilometers? Because you know if you covert that into miles it's like 54, tops.

NAD is FTW but I've even gotten a motor from them with a blown head gasket. I love kids who swap JDM motors in and don't do any maintenance first.

That eBay seller used to be in GA, now they have relocated to Texas. On every item they sell, and i mean EVERY, they list the approximate mileage (conversion).

when i used to work at a salvage yard(not naking any names lol) other salesman used to tell people motors had 50-80K on them when you could look up the rest of the parts from that car and see a cluster with 200+K on it

so fucked up.....i could neveer bring myself to do that shit cause im terrified of karma lol

maintenance? lol
maintenance is taken care of at 30,000 miles. If I buy my swap w/ 35,000 then there isn't any maintenance to do. Hell, I wouldn't even put any oil in because in Japan they use full sythetic so Ive got another 2k miles with the oil it comes with before I really need to change it.

I concur. There is no way with all the JDM swaps out there that there are still engines out there from Japan with that kind of mileage. Especially Honda engines, and SR20DET.

i always thought japan had some stupid emissions rule where engines had to be replaced at a certain mileage...

New and used cars are relatively inexpensive in the home country of Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mazda, with brand new kei-class cars, the smallest car type, selling for less than a million yen.

Owning and operating a car, however, is linked with various considerable expenses, including compulsory inspections (shaken) every two to three years, various taxes, mandatory and optional insurance, high parking costs in cities, and expensive toll expressways. A liter of gasoline costs roughly 120 Yen.

Shaken is a compulsory safety inspection, which cars in Japan have to undergo every two years, except new cars, for which the first inspection is not due until three years after purchase. The shaken typically costs between 100,000 and 200,000 Yen, and besides the actual inspection includes a weight tax (typically 8,000 to 50,000 Yen) and a mandatory insurance (about 30,000 Yen). Once a car reaches 10 years old the inspection is every year.

Since the mandatory insurance does not provide full coverage, it is recommended to purchase additional, optional car insurance. Furthermore, there is an annual automobile tax, which depends on the engine size and is typically between 10,000 and 50,000 Yen, and an acquisition tax to be paid when you buy the car.

When acquiring a car, numerous documents have to be filled out, including forms to register your car and to verify ownership of a parking space. If you buy a used car, the process is further complicated by forms regulating the transfer of ownership.

If you buy a car through a car dealer, the dealer will handle most of the paperwork for you, while your main task is signing the forms with your officially registered, personal stamp (inkan).

Mileage has nothing to do with it.
