I just bought a 89 RB20 swapped 240...when I bought it, I had to pop the clutch to start it, it died on me, I replaced the battery, turns on and it smokes black smoke, and then it shuts off in like 10 seconds, or if you give it gas, it turns off right away. what can it be?

If I step on the gas, it shuts off right away. It smokes black, white and blue smoke.

sounds like a misfire to me. pull your spark plugs, check for vacuum leak, check to see if your maf is plugged up, try another ecu. etc.

Really stupid question, but where is the MAF on a rb20? first non honda..lol. i think its the maf. It sounds like it releases alot of air when I start it up.

oil catch can, correct? The lines won't stay on it, they fall off everytime, and its leaking. the car will start up, smoke and shuts off.

Didn't even hit boost.

You mean VTAK, right? The only boost I ever hit comes from a set of cables.

it should be off the intake between the turbo inlet and the intake. if there is no maf there it is either on the intercooler piping, or lacking one.

a maf looks like this...

I don't one of those in my engine bay...lol.

Will a bad/dirty MAF cause smoking and cause it to turn off?

LOL well if there isnt a maf on your car then that is the reason its not running right, unless you have an aftermarket ECU tuned with MAP... what ecu are you on..?

more specifically what 240 dumbass did you buy that car from?

from the pic it looks to not have a MAF

Cameron.

ok, so more than likely you are using a map sensor with the emanage, dude just call dave and set up an appt and i promise you he will have your car fixed within an hour.

I'm gonna clean the MAF, if it doesn't fix it, I'm gonna talk to the guy I got it from and trade back cars. How much does dave charge? I'm not looking to put much money into this piece of shit.

If I don't have a MAF, if i'm running a map sensor, what is the problem them?

Cameron.
04-21-2010, 10:29 PM
lol. well that gets rid of one variable... check for vacuum leaks, pull the plugs to see if you fouled any, is it running on stock injectors? has the car been tuned?

GreenDB7

not stock injectors, 900cc, i think. And yeah its been tuned.

Cameron.

900cc....? yes, definitely see if you fouled a plug LMAO.

900cc....? yes, definitely see if you fouled a plug LMAO.

Thats what he told me, lol. You think it'll be fine if I put stock injectors on it? It's a basically stock RB20, different turbo, 15psi, blitz BOV

GreenDB7
04-21-2010, 10:38 PM
So I should put stock injectors in it, and new plugs?

Cameron.
04-21-2010, 10:39 PM
DUDE. you should listen to what i said and call dave the RB guru at pro auto care...

Do the seals on the turbo look bad?

Cameron.
04-21-2010, 10:44 PM
the seals are internal on turbos theres no way just to look at one and tell.

dude i hate to say it but it looks like you got your self into something that you are not ready for yet. do your homework on RB engines please.
