View Full Version : 98 jetta thrown codes need help

i have a 1998 jetta 2.0 it overheated down the street from my house drove it home cut it off then started it 5 mins later to pull in gargae started fine i then change the thermosat and as soon as i finish the car (http://volkswagenforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19501#) will turn over but not start and is throwing these codes p1237,p1238,p1239,p1240 ,p1544 it also throw po118 and p1580 but those 2 went away after i cleaned the etc sensor any help will be highley thanked i need car asap

sounds like you didn't plug something back in. those are injector codes. check over your work for plugs and grounds

checked all grounds and plugs all of them are good cleaned the grounds and screwed them back in this car got me lost

P1544- Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Signal Too High
P1580- Throttle Actuator B1 Malfunction
P0118- Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input

i just can't see all of this going on due to overheating. if it was me i would go over everything that was touched mainly the harness. and prolly a main plug.

P1544- Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Signal Too High
P1580- Throttle Actuator B1 Malfunction
P0118- Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input
i got the p0118 and p1580 to go away by cleaning the engine coolant temp sensor


P1237 Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 1
P1238 Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 2
P1239 Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 3
P1240 Injector Circuit Open Cylinder 4

this is my issue i cant find the reason why this is throwing i looked on other fourms but they give me not to much info

yea im going to go throw the whole harness and clean the plugs

got all your grounds back on? its to many codes for it not to be something common.

so i went to check the spark i pulled cyle #1 wire out an had my brother start the car and car fired right up i plug the wire back in and the car starts no problem now my only issue is the car is not overheating but the overflow bucket blows stem and pushes out fluied like crazy why can that be

air in the lines
blown head gasket
bad pump (not so much)
bad thermo (not so much)
