Get in touch with the last known owner of the vehicle and tell him to go to DMV and get a new title.

You could also try to get a bonded title.

call 911 and get a VIN check done on the car, and just go get a bonded title.

Call a cop, get him to come to your house, make sure it's not stolen (and that its really a lost title.) , fill out some papers at the DMV, pay small fees and get a title..

Bonded title is pretty much like a real title it just says bonded on the top. It hurts the retail value of the car a good bit.
A vin check can also determine the last time it was registered and to whom...
