Turbo Build/Rebuild. I need turbo experts help!! :)

1. Depends on each individual manufacturer. Why not try a small Borg Warner or Bullseye turbo? We have had GREAT luck with them. S256 or slightly smaller would be a good choice if you are looking to do this on pump gas. The extended tip turbos spool VERY quickly. Billet wheels seem to be the new big thing. Not sure how much faster they really spool as it seems to spool similar just make a bit more power. Usually they are a slightly larger wheel.

Honestly if you have the bottom end to handle it, go bigger. Lag is only there for a second in first gear. From there, it's just a downshift away. And put a filter on that thing. You are just sand blasting your compressor wheel!

T04E 50 trim with the smallest turbine housing you can find....maybe a .55 ar or .63. I would hate to cheap out on a turbo build though, lol. You have a compressor wheel come apart and spit metal fragments into the intake and you can kiss the motor goodbye! I would look to Garrett or Bullseye for a turbo. Honestly $900-1000 is pretty cheap for a good quality turbo! You might be able to get a Garrett for $550-600. But then you are only $300 or so away from a S256 at that point.

Faster spool up, more power. The S256 is a little bigger than a 30R. Compressor and turbine wheel technology is new compared to 30 year old Garrett wheels. Disk bearing instead of ball bearing though, so rebuilds are much cheaper. Check out http://www.bullseyepower.com/racing.asp I have done 3 kits with these so far with great results!

Or you could rebuild, but my guess is that wheel may be trashed from running it without a filter. It will slowly sand blast the wheel from road grit, dust, etc.

If all you want is 300 whp, and something that spools fast, i would do a larger t3 turbo, or a small t3/t4. No need for 30r+. (or even go with a 2871r, or disco potato (t2 flanges)

You could also look into getting a VF30, VF34, VF39 or VF43 of of a Subaru. They are pretty tough turbos and good for 300 if you push them. The VF34 is a ball bearing turbo. You would have to redo your piping, but you can pick them up almost brand new for around $400.

Another turbo that would be great would be a EvoIII 16 G. Fast spool and good top end potential. I think the max out at around 320 on pump gas. Then there is the new HTA68 billet wheel from forced performance. Might spool a little slow on that motor though.

Yup, it is a nice little turbo. You can also push the boost pretty dang high on it too and stay in its efficiency range.

i think 22psi it the limits of its efficiency range.

That depends actually...you can take it up quite a bit higher in the low end and then taper it towards redline if you have the right boost controller.

tuning secrets :) You want that mid range PUNCH then ya gotta use the turbo to the best that it can be used. There are other little tricks too.

He has the machining done by some guy that does a bunch of NHRA cars. We just don't have the cash for $250,000 machine shop equipment. And the guy that does the machining has been doing it for 20 years. The rest he does it all in house. All the assembly and port and polish work. We do all our fabrication work in house as well.

We are hoping to start on a 600+ hp S2000 build here in the next month or so. We have to finish up a couple Subarus first. I am shooting for 600+ on my suby as well.

Andy is over in Kennesaw. I am sure it depends on what you need done. He spends around 30 hours per head on porting and polishing and can only do around 3-4 hours at a time, lol. Cramping, back aches, etc. Sucks getting old. But short blocks don't take nearly as much time.
