cam shaft or crank shaft

what would be the cause of a stock cam or crank shaft snappin.is it possible on a stock engine with no power adders. jus old.was told this is my problem but want to git some other opinions before i pull apart. everything turns fine , but i cant git this engine in time for nothin. need all the help i can git. thanks.

ive only seen 1 cam broken. that was a mild build.

never seen a crank snap, I have seen and heard of a lot of aftermarket cams breaking, but never a stock one....

it wouldnt break. are you doing the timing procedure properly?

Even if both were snapped, you would still be able to get it timed, but only the front half of the motor would turn, so I would reread the instructions and try again.

just what i was thinking? i was helping my friend put his jdm gsr in time, the timimg belt goes around the exhaust cam 1st i believe and we used a piece of wood to tension the timing belt so when we put it over the intake cam it was already tensioned... GL

single cams are a lot easier to time than duals. if im thinking correctly, it should wrap around the crank (have the crank about 1/2 tooth before TDC), then water pump, idler if there is one (cant remember), cam timed at TDC, then the correctly compressed tensioner. then turn the crank to TDC to remove slack in the belt, finally, release tension in the tensioner.

did you jump the ecu first on the service connector, if not the ecu will auto adjust it and you won't really accomplish anything.
