If youve been cranking the shit up you probably blew it. Any person knows that there is a break in period for any subwoofer.

mmmmm....melting voice coil. Break it in for two weeks. Then crank it.

Its fine. Its the voice coil burning in. My quantum did it. It will be fine, just dont romp it terribly hard for the first 6-8 hours, then whoop the shit out of it! Try some tone tests, they seem to work really well for stretching it out and the such.

back on topic, it only hit on saturday becasue my amp was staying on, so disconnected the fuse and i just got it working again last night. The sub sounds fine, but i heard is there a break in point for alpine amps... not sure at all just wondering

but that smell i dont know, i still smell it but not as bad

the smell is just the excess glue from the voice coil burning off. For arguement sake though:
where are the gains set on the amp?
any bass boost?
what volume out of what do you smell it?

Clipping the amp will also cause the VC to burn up.

you clip the amp by having the gains turned up too high. It basicly means you are trying to get the amp to produce more power than it was supposed todo. To try to make more power, the amp clips off the end of the signal.

ur melting ur coil back off it turn ur gain down on the amp or turn the slope down

It is fine.. any high powered sub will smell like that. my audiobahn immortal series does it. 404 motorsports installed it.

my XXX's only smelled like that when I burped them. I still say its excess glue burning off, and since he hasnt posted again I would guess that the smell went away.
